I have a good friend with a 1995 Defender 90 and he needs a quality Land Rover OR good import shop to work on his rig.

He has a load of issues and needs a trust worthy shop that will not rip him off or mess up a very hard to get parts for rig.

If anyone has had a good experience please let me know so I can pass the word on...

I want him to go wheeling with me but until he has a reliable rig it's a not go

Thanks

there is a guy up here in danville that sells rover parts. his name is will. hit him up at www.roverguy.com. he can get all kind of parts and has tons of rovers around the shop. he doesn't really work on stuff anymore, just sells parts. he can probably steer you in the right direction. tell him the ups guy refered him.

AVOID Rover Automotive. They have a tendency to make matters worse. Last year they took me for a ride. Wish I had just taken my money and flushed it down the toilet. At least my truck would still be running right now.

I've heard good things about Flying Circus. They work on all kinds of british cars.

But to be honest, the 95 D-90s are easy rigs to work on. Everything is right there, easy to get to, OBD 1. Really, any competent shop should be able to help you. "Specialty" shops just mean they will charge you more for the same work.

Very true...I used to pay the shops to do my work until my dad and I started doing all the work on my D90 our selves. Has saved us a shit load of money and now we can pretty much do anything we need to do to it.

The problem is not the "working on" but it is figuring out the problem or problems. We can change parts no problem but changing higher $$ harder to get parts in the big problem.

I learned this lesson on my Powerstroke Diesel last year.

I used to work for Land Rover when I lived in the DC area .
I live in Garner and work for Meineke .I will not BS him and I can take care of most issues on a D90 . PM me and I will take care of him like he was family . I know owning a LR most shops try to break it off in you Be where I work I try to be honest and fair .That is how the owner wants it .

Linnie at Braddies British in wake forest did good work on my wifes 99 disco when we were up there.
He's just off 1 after you pass the target etc.

He also repairs the slipping sleeve issue in the 4.0 and 4.6 engines, and the 99 went over 120k miles on that fix, after only 60k with original rover engine build.

Patterson Performance Saab in Raleigh is doing a head gasket on my friends Disco II right now. They can be slow to get work done sometimes, but they do a good job and have always stayed on budget. They are also much cheaper than any other shop I have used for Import type work.

For example... they did the head gasket for about $1400. Had a quote from 2 other shops for 2300+

They rebuilt the transmission in my saab for $1100. Another shop quoted me $2300

I've heard great things about Braddies British. Mixed reviews about flying circus(although I know the owner and frequently barter parts with him), they do have a good salvage yard with a fee landies(no d90s)

As for roverguy, his name is Will Tillery and he is a solid guy, best prices on parts and very easy to work with. I get stuff from him all the time.

Avoid discovery automotive like the plague. Total rip off and the owner, Dave, has tried to overcharge me several times. They have never and they never will work on my rig.

My last recommendation is to join Carolina rovers owners club. A few of us have d90s or are procuring one. Also check out buckhorn imports in Clayton. Herod a frame up rebuild of a 110

From the Rover Forums I have heard nothing but good things from/about Will. Seems to be as straight up as they come in this business......

Also, look into European Performance in Raleigh. I've always heard they do good work and have a good reputation. Ask for Tolga if you call. They do some minor things for me from time to time and I have always been pleased but since my vehicles are American they really don't work on them in depth.
