argh...land rover is so retarded. Okay...i have a serious coolant leak. I know where its coming from, i just dont know what its called and where to get one. Anyone help?

Its the brown plastic...bypass valve? where the water from the block bypasses the radiator and goes back to the intake.

the "valve" is cracked and leaking.

It seems to me, and from what i can tell people have done this before, but it looks like i can forget the bypass valve, re route the block exit line back to the radiator and set the whole thing up like a NORMAL AMERICAN cooling system.

another question is, where the hell is the thermostat? is it in that bypass vavle!?!?

holy crap i hate land rovers!

f'ing gear boxes and bonnets, and front wings, and aluminum every effing thing..if its not aluminum its dry rotted vynal....what happened to rubber cooling lines!

oh and advance auto, napa, etc.., never has anything in stock, so if you break down, your down til rovrtyme or who ever else can ship it to ya...and lets hope they are stateside!

and ya know what..i hate the three amigos! excessive break squeal sensor! wtf!

dont forget you have to carry a lorrie (thats limey for tractor trailer) sized 4 way cause a regular lugnut wrench wont fit the stupid lug caps.

all the cooling hoses are are held in place by compression bands rather than normal worm srew type plumbing bands. What a pain in the ass to get those off, and the all the fittings are plastic so when your messing with the bands you crush anything they are holding in place.

Always check the weather to see if its gonna rain, you got to remember to flex the doors back straight so they dont leak water through the jams.

OH yeah...lets put a switch on the gearbox (thats the tcase) that makes it go from full Awd to 4wd, but lets not put a handle inside the cab of the vehicle, lets make it a nipple on top of the tcase that you have to climb under the truck in the mud to turn it on.

"since they gotta pull the dash out to replace faulty welding on the heater cores they can ahead and install the series 1 shifter handles in if they want 4wd."

Dont forget to pick up a head gasket when you get your oil filter, i think your supposed to do a head job every 3rd oil change.

and you know that seafoam green stuff that everyone raves about cleaning out their vehicles...thats like liquid glass to land rovers.

Theres no transmission dip stick, i believe page 113 of LR owners manual says if the tranny stops leaking that means its low on fluid and time to drive to the dealership to have it refilled.....cause you can do it yourself...theres no fill tube. it requires a vacuum pump. you'll know when its low...theres a sensor that turns on 3 lights on the dash...yeah, the three amigos again....and the vehicle goes into "limp mode". thats second gear, and second gear only, wtf?

Do you need a hug Ried??? You are welcome to the shop and some help if I can assist you....

What you just described is typical Land Rover. They are shit, shit, shit. (And as you've found out recently, that's putting it mildly.) It still boggles my mind that people buy them. They obviously don't do their homework when looking for a new vehicle. (Course I'm kinda glad they don't or I wouldn't have a job.)

lol, thanks snappy. i'll manage, its all little crap. im just venting.

yeah...thats the case here. i cant believe i test drove a wj vs the land rover on same lot. for some stupid reason i went with the rover. never read about them, didnt know a thing about them.....how bad could they be right? LOL!

im in a better mood now. i just bandaided it and walked away. gonna order the parts to americanize the cooling system tomorrow. already replaced all the plastic/vynal cooling hoses with about 12 feet of rubber hose. ive got most of the compression clamps changed over to worm screw bands.

did some reading on discoweb and found out theres a short cut for fixing the heater core, cuts it down to 5 hours, so thats good news...especially since its getting COLD outside!

lol, ive got to remove the dash to do that and im scared if i do that the damn thing will be so brittle i wont be able to get it back on.

ha ha ha my mom got an 02 disco a year and a half ago. has been nothing but trouble since the day we got it. we trust my 97 xj lifted and with 215k on it to drive on trips ten times more than that rover. Its a money pit everytime something breaks. we have done our share of bandaiding and duct taping. as soon as you fix one thing another breaks.

well, parts came in. Got them installed. I feel much better. The temp maintains a steady temperature now. now more bobbing needle, lol.

Next project, heater core and center diff lock shifter.
