Latest scoop on synthetic winch line

I've got three Warns all with cable still. Was at Lowe's yesterday to snag some more welding wire and walked past the truck section not expecting to see anything, but I can't help but look at tow straps, shackles, and pulleys and dream of epic recoveries. Saw (and bought) a 12k synthetic winch line for $103. Don't remember the brand, but this seemed like a bargain. Is it?
 
I've bought several (for me and for friends) a synthetic rope from EBAY, the cheapest and highest weight rated, and have broken one, but that one broke where it had been frazzled where it had rubbed over rocks. SO, I'd count it as user error. The sub ~$80 IIRC. The winch was Chinessium, but the winch was also, and I have stalled my winch with them, but most winches are! So I figured if they came with rope, then I'd figure so did the rope that come on them. I've seen some really high dollar winch ropes out there I just can't seem to be able in my thinking to warrant the extra cost. If I were gonna get a high dollar winch rope, it'd probably be the Freedom winch rope made by Bleeping jeep. You Mentioned $103, To buy it local, the increase in amount from what I paid and what you paid, is most likely inflation.
 
If you run synthetic consider a winch cover, the synthetic lines will degrade with uv exposure.

I would trust a new Chinese line vs a name brand that’s sat on a bumper in the sun for a few years
 
I got some of this style last year and half my wheeling group has since bought some lol. Double Braid Synthetic Winch Line

The one downside to that style rope is field repairing would be a pain, then again everyone I wheel with has a winch, and our collective brain cells (15 amongst 16 people) could come up with something if that situation ever arose.

I like the coated/covered rope like that. I have one like that from Olympus Offroad back before they shut down.

Meh. Im not to worried about uv exposure. I had one on my jeep. And it sat outside for years and it didnt break.... it had rope burns and cuts all over it but no issues with uv.

And at 80 dollars most can afford to change every couple of years if worried about it.

When my Jeep sat outside (no storage) with tarps, winch not covered, I have replaced every 6-8 years. So yeah, economics says buy the cheap ones. The only thing I found when going from steel cable to synthetic rope, is the small bolt that attaches it to the drum, you have to get a longer bolt because the rope attachment thimble is a little thicker.
