I'm not really sure about this...i think i have the answer but idk.

There is a whole lot of pressure on leaf springs correct? I'm just trying to change out my shackles to make my Yota lower. I don't really know what precautions i need to take in order to install them. I have a Jack under the rear axle, but i feel like if i went to take the bolt out of the shackle...the spring would do some damage to something.

My overall question is what do i need to do to prevent the leaf springs from shooting downward?

The entire weight of the rear end is on the springs...so yes if you take the bolt out the rear will collapse. You need to put the frame on jack stands and have enough room for the springs to droop all the way. That's the only way to get the weight off the and not have pressure on the bolt.

Yea, you need to jack up the body/frame to get the weight off the springs. You'll need a bumper jack like a high lift then just get the wheels barely on the ground. (no weight on them but not off the ground)
