I just purchased an 02 2500 chevy tonight.:bounce2: The individual I bought it from had a lein on the title with his credit union. The owner signed over power of attorney of the title to my bank, so that when his bank sends the title to my bank he doesnt have to come back to sign. My question is this, while the title is being snailmailed all over nc, do I have to wait to put tags on my truck. I talked with a local car dealer and he said that if I was transfering tags, had insurance and bill of sale, that I could put the tags on my old truck on it for up to 30 days. Is this correct or bs. The lady at the dot told me I would have to wait. If I do that sucks.

Put your old tag on there as long as it was current. Like you were told, as long as you have insurance and a notarized bill of sale you are fine for 30 days...My boss sales cars and we do it all the time. Not sure exactly what the laws says but we or anyone we know has never had any problems.

cool, im driving it home.

One thing to watch out for. I do not know what the tags are comming off of, but if they are regular passenger car tags they are only rated for up to 6,000 lbs. If your new Chevy will be used to carry any weight, you will probably bust that number. Think about weighing the vehicle and then guestimating how much cargo you will want to haul. DMV officers are not real forgiving in this area. (Yes, they will mess with pickups. A few years ago they were busting 4-H parents hauling horses to the fairgrounds for not having enough weight on thier tags. I believe they can charge up to $1.00 per pound over the registration weight)

The tags are off of my 77 halfton. They are not waited tags, but just as soon as the title makes it back to my bank, I will be adding them.
