Alright, well I just bought my 2nd wrangler, this one is a 2006 LJ, completly stock.6sp.hardtop. Anyways, my first wrangler was bought built, and with this one im trying to do it right the first time and do it the way I want..With that said..
Im looking to buy quality parts and not go back to fix cheap bobo parts.
First lift Im looking into is the Currie 4'' short arm w/ anti-rock, I think I'd be ok without doing a sye and cv ds right off the back due to the extended driveshaft?(it will happen when funds are there)
Second is a hybrid lift from dpgoff-road.com, this is a 3'' suspension lift and a 1.25'' bl.
those are the only two Im stuck on, if you have any suggestions as to what i should do, please let me know.
And if I were to go with the Currie lift I know id need longer break lines, mml/spacer, what else...

sorry for the noob questions. :shaking:
thanks

With any build you need to first start with a plan. Figure out what type of wheeling you want to do. Be realistic. For instance if you want to build a rock rig on 37's you'll need to figure and axle swap so then start to gather parts. Then figure out how your jeep will need to perform in that type of wheeling. Then come up with a build plan.

First - Fix your location so we know where you are.
Second - I would talk to some local 4x4 shops and get their opinions on different lifts you are looking at, chances are they have installed multiples of each one. (Again if we knew your location we could probably suggest someone close to you)
Finally- Matt has a great point, start with your end goal in mind otherwise you will never be happy.

Well, this is going to be my dd and my weekend warrior. It's going to get wheeled and wheeled hard.. I want it to be a jack of all trades and master of none. I want to run 33s for now until I save and build some axels and throw a set of 35s on there w metalcloke arch fenders or something of that nature. I want a quality, solid, dd'able lift.
-Seth.

Also, i live in fuquay and newhill currently. Moving to Cary in 2 weeks.

I've had great success with 5 LJ's with the RE 5.5" Long Arm and skid plates. Just got done building one. Good flex and plenty of clearance with 37" KM2's on Dana 44's front and rear re-geared 5.13

Sounds like you want to go lower then that so I would suggest the 4.5" long arm. The metal cloak fenders are nice, just a PITA to put on, takes alot of time.

I want to keep it semi low, heard the re kits net an inch more then advertised. And I only have money for the lift, little odds and ends, and wheels + tires right now. Axels and all the Other bigger $ items will come later.

I'm a firm believer in long arms. Almost every jeep I've built suspension for has been one that the guy bought a short arm kit for and decided he wanted to take it to the next level. With long arms you'll get way better road manners and much more useable wheel travel when it's set up right.

If you are set on short arms then I think you cant go wrong with the currie setup. They build some nice stuff.

First - Fix your location so we know where you are.
Fuquay and Cary are next to each other and if I had to guess he is located between the two in the county, i.e. no city/town.

Food for thought,

I have a TJ w/7" LA suspension and all the other goodies. I'm currently devolving it down to a more reasonable height. At the time there were none of the virtual lifts out there, metal cloak, Gen-rite and others. I would seriously consider going that route on a dd keeping the very usable stock suspension and manners while being able to gain the clearance you currently want. Having lived with both this is where I would have started. You can always add lift or change the suspension later on.

I would look at the Rubicon Express RE7000 kit. You can get it from 4x4groupbuy.com with everything you need included. Comes with SYE and Tom Woods shaft when you buy from them. Dont know what your budget is like but its a heck of a deal for 1500. I had there set up on my TJ and loved it, until I had my 4 link built last winter. I still have there front set up on my jeep now and its great. Excellent quality and durability. It also fits 35's.

You were correct also when you said there kits net 1" over advertised, but thats when they are brand new. The setteled height is right what they advertise. They just make sure you get the lift you paid for.

Here is the recipe I have used for many, many customers before who wanted 33's on their TJ/LJ's.
RE7002 3.5" lift
1" motor mount lift (for driveline angles)
1" body lift
33's
Look cool, wheel good with no rubbing, no issues and do it all quite cheaply too.

i am going to have to agree with ECU Jeeper after going through 3 different build stages on my wrangler.

I started out with a budget boost and 31's, then bought the 3.5 RE kit but didnt get new control arms and then finally went to the RE long arms. had i just saved my money the first time around i could have gone straight from the budget boost to long arms and skipped having to buy 3 different sets of tires.

granted on the long arm build i did go through about $8K but i did a whole lot of stuff. Your LJ should already have a dana 44 rear end and the only weak point is your front dana 30, but i have seen people run 35's and it hold up as long as you dont bash it into a rock or lock it and go hard on the gas.

I would stick with the budget boost and 1" BL and get the 33's and start saving up for the long arms

Sorry for the late post, I am going to be using tax return money for the purchase of the currie lift, body lift, new motor mount, driveshaft and sye. I also am selling my civic si, and that will go toward axels, wheels+tires, armor, skids, and any other odds n ends I need throughout the build. Anyone in the Raleigh/Cary/fv area care to lend a hand, plenty of beer and pizza. ;)

idk how much wheelin ya do BUT if i can suggest something i would say go long arms!

Im pretty firm with running short arms.. Almost firm with currie but i might go with an ome hybrid lift and run metal clokes or something of that sort.. Have been thinking about the 4x4groupbuy for the RE 3.5 lift kit w tom woods and sye for $1500..
not sure
