Have a lock rite in a front fj60 axle. I broke several stock shafts then upgraded to Longs. The locker is working, but would create a loud bang on the driver wheel when turning passenger. I assumed the pins and springs in the locker may be fawked. So I tore it all apart and the locker looks fine. The bell on the outer is not marred from beating the inside of the knuckle either.

Any suggestions or things to look for?

Does the bang happen while the truck is rolling or sitting still? While turning or at full lock?

I put a spartan in the 44 rear on my Willys.Sounded like gremlins were chipping splines with a hammer and chisel.Pulled it apart and all was fine.Did a google search and from what I gathered,it was normal.I just went with thicker gear oil with lucas and it quieted it down alot and it seems to even work better.I filled it with 75-140 and some lucas I had laying around.

I found on my truck my carrier was wore out. Where the side gears go in the carrier was oblong shaped the side gear would walk up and down in the carrier.

I will check the carrier and see. Have a complete axle waiting for soa, so i have spare third. Carrier looked fine when installed last year. My plan is to rework suspension and gears after a mid April Harlan trip. A loud front locker will probably be the least of my worries then. I've heard good stuff about thicker oil and adatives. Lucus rocks!!!

I have a lock right in the front. When I am going down a steep incline, it will make a loud what I would call a click (really loud) that sounds like it is coming from the driver side. I assume it is under pressure and it is the teeth on the locker racheting since it is not in the drive mode. Does not do it moving forward though. I am going to replace the pins and springs to see if it helps in mine.

The bang happens when turning passenger near full lock. Nothing happens when sitting still. With the truck on stands and rear drive shaft removed both wheels spin fine through the gears while turning lock to lock with no noise. With t case in neutral you can spin either front tire while holding the other and it engages and turns both after a few loud ratchets of chachunk. If you spin one tire quickly it will thunk thunk thunk chachunk chachunk and the input flange on the pumpkin shutters with the sounds and eventually the other tire starts to rotate.

I contacted Chase about springs and pins. He didn't think they were the issue. He told me to look for rounded teeth on the two halves of the locker. I checked them and they look almost new.

I am almost done building the bed and will reassemble the front soon. Possibly tonight. Anyone have any thoughts on it or just run it till it grenades.

Back when tellico was open... Man that would be nice.

Ok, back on topic. Back when tellico was open I had a lock right that would unload at times.

I'm gonna go with the locker is unloading. Has it happened enough times where you can tell where you have the throttle positioned? Is it at the same spot each time? Is the front axle in a major bind at the time it happens? My front lock right on my yota axle would unload once in a while. I have it on video somewhere. I will try to find it and post it.

Oh, what gear oil you running? It can make a difference.

Directions for the install didn't call for the washers, I think. I ran it for a while with 33s and then went to the 36s and it was fine and never made the sounds.

Then I got to thrashing it in Harlan and broke the both front axles, didn't want to change on trail. Drove back in 2wd. Eventually the front end wouldn't turn left from busted cage jammed it it. Messy. So it sat with one stock side for a while and would move around the yard occasionally to relocated my M101.

After assembling it with Longs I noticed the sounds.

I have heard that the oil would make a difference. I thought this might have been the issue so I changed oil. It still popped. What oil should be run to reduce this?
