Locking Hub Issues

I have a 2003 F250 and the front left locking hub has been giving me some issues. I locked the hubs one day and went I went to unlock em I turned them back like I always do. The front left turned but it didnt unlock. I drove around like this for about 2 weeks. It was fine driving straight but once you turned to the right and the locked hub became the outside wheel I got some serious wheel hop. I finaly got it to unlock and I've been scared to put it back in fear of the same thing happening. So I get a friend to check it out and he tells me that you cant just replace the locking portion. You have to replace pretty much have to replace everything under the fender minus rotors and brakes. He says that its all one peice and you cant just replace one part of it. My question is to you experienced guys does this sound right. I dont have much experience with this so any info would help.

Thanks in advance, Wes

We have had plenty of issues with the factory hubs on the super duty's. Just put on a new set of warns and forget about it. We do have them in stock, Bob. 910-326-2881

Might try taking it apart and cleaning it, and only put a thinlayer of grease back in, or maybe only some oil to lube it

I had the same issues with my 2001 locking hubs. I just replaced with Premium Warns and capped the vaccum line.

they work awesome now.

btw, the warns are much cheaper than the factory hubs...

I had trouble with mine in my 02 when I first got it but after using them several times they started working fine. The person that had it before me bought it new and never used the 4wd.

Thanks for the input. I've been searching around and like some of you guys said already warn is the way to go. When capping the vacum lines what did you guys use. I've never messed with this problem so thanks in advance for any input.

Advance Zone, Napa, etc should have official vaccum caps, they're just rubber plugs that fit over the nipple where the rubber line starts. The easy way is to stuff a golf tee in the vacuum hose.

do they lock in on there own? some people like auto hubs me included and I have spent countless hours fixing those superduty ones for customers. They can be fixed and they work well.

I used a bolt or sheet metal screw (can't remember) and added a black zip tie around the line to help secure it

Locking in is good. My drivers side wont unlock without turning the dial on the hub back and forth several times until you hear it make a ping noise and then you can tell its unlocked.

just take the hub off, apart soak it in keroseen, blow it out, then spray it down with WD-40, work it a while, blow it out again and spray some white lithium grease in there, it will be as they say "like knife through warm butter".

I went ahaead and ordered some warn premiums from Bob at Big Wheel Off Road. I'll try and install em this weekend. Does anyone have any pics of where to cap off the vacum lines. I'm pretty sure I know where to under the fender but I also heard you neede to cap something off under the hood.
