I'm going to look at a 95 PSD 5-speed. What are come common problems to look for?

research at thedieselstop.com and dieselgarage.com.

I'm more of a cummins guy myself but this is what i can recall off the top of my head: Things to ask if they have been replaced: glow plugs, injectors, high pressure oil pump and turbo (not sure if 95 was turbo fromt he factory or not). as far as how to check, you'd have to refer to those forums.

yea it was the first year of the "powerstroke"

I have a 95 F350 5 speed 7.3 with 290,000 and absolutely love it.
Staight pipe, and air filter for sure. drive it easy and you will get 20 mpg. Mine smokes a little a start up until warm and the CMS sensor are bad for going out. The sensor can be changed with a 10mm wrench and they are $25.00 bucks. Go to powerstroke.org also and poke around for some good info.

I'm looking there right now. I'm gonna take the checklist with me Sat when I go drive the truck.

The truck is in Catawaba NC any one know someone that works on diesels in that area that would look it over for me?

my buddys are big on the diesels and we arent far. chances are we know the truck your lookin at.

anyway
7.3s are the best (ford wise)

I've always heard that 99-00 were the best years since they had forged internals. You can't go wrong with either a 5.9 cummins or a 7.3 power stroke. Both will last forever if you treat them right.

and I do that by pulling the oil cap while it's running right?

THE BLUE OVAL ON THE GRILL:lol:
Nah....The powerstrokes are good to go...wouldn't wanna a ford gasser though
Jeff, /\ Aaron has a powerstroke and he loves it too, BUT its got a 12valve Cummins in it:flipoff2:

Those trucks are okay but if you decide you want more power you're going to be hating yourself after talking to a Cummins guy. I can only think of a couple people with diesels I know that are still in stock form.

jeff my 97 is stock cept for having no cat and a washable air filter.
be sure to listen to and feel the clutch action. the fords use a dual mass flywheel
and are bad to chatter when they are about to give out. i got 120 thou out of mine
before i had it replaced.$$$$
if this truck has low miles (ie less than 250 thou) you should be good to go.
mine has never let me down. and gets the job done just fine without all them go fast goodys.

Thanks for the feed back. I'm going out to drive the truck in the morning. The truck is a 95 7.3 5speed 4x4 reg cab long bed. It's blue and white fold down gooseneck...The truck has 250k and the owner has had it since 60k all service records and it has a fresh transfercase and warn lockouts

buy it, but there is nothing wrong with a gasser either, my 460 locked horns with a 00 7.3 the other day and I was very surprised

I'm still waiting on the title work for the gasser. My dad and I are gonna take the flat bed off his chevy and put it that truck
