I hired a guy today to do some manual labor. Old black man, just turned 65 years old and I bet he can outwork most 20 year olds. He used to do a lot of logging, and is getting ready to get back in the business -- buying a truck, skid loader, etc.

Anyway, I found him thru my neighbor. He used to live on my road with his grandparents. Grew up out here. He told some interesting stories while we worked and at lunch break.

My land, and my neighbors 100 acre parcel, and the two 25's to my north, was their hunting grounds back then about 200 acres total between the road and the creek. There are several old homesteads out here. One on the backside of my place is just a pile of foundation rubble, and some daffodils and yucca plants.

Anyway, about 50 years ago late 60's, early 70's, his uncle went rabbit hunting out here. Never came back. The dogs came home the next day.

So...the great news for the day is there is probably a dead guy out in the woods around here. They searched and searched the whole area, but never found anything.

There are several old homesteads out here. One on the backside of my place is just a pile of foundation rubble, and some daffodils and yucca plants. His best guess is that his uncle fell into an old dug well.

Could a fella come metal detecting for interesting objects and such?

Any time I'm out walking in the woods I get nervous when I start seeing old foundations or those prickly plants that granny used to plant everywhere. @Junkyard Dog and I was talking about this awhile back and that would be a rough way to go.

Sadly, that time... its also possible he ran into some good ol' boys that weren't happy with the changing times, and took their law into their hands and left him elsewhere. I hate to go there but it happened.

Some of the property I hunt is a huge dairy farm. The old farm hand grew up on the property his parents where sharecroppers and when the farm got bought out he stayed to work at the dairy farm. He’s got to be close to 80, never had a license, can’t read or sign his name, and you can barely understand a word he says but he has a heart of gold. Last year I shot a deer and he heard the shot but never saw me come out of the woods 2 hrs later I see his headlights coming he was checking to make sure I didn’t fall and get hurt. He’s also got some good stories

I've seen a bunch of dangerous wells while hunting and surveying. Most of them had bones from deer, dogs, and other critters that fell into them. Some of them were damn deep, could not see the bottom and it took a while to hear a splash from a dropped rock.
