Love your hometown?

I like my hometown because it's small.

I don't like my hometown because it's small.

I have no clue why you brought this up. Moving back to you hometown maybe?

Well, Charlotte isn't my hometown, but there are several reasons that I've grown to love the place. First and foremost is my neighbors- they are always watching out for us. One guy is really great, he is always watching to make sure that my grass doesn't get too long. And if it does, he makes sure that the City of Charlotte lets us know. He is also looking out to make sure that we don't have any run down vehicles in our driveway, or that we don't have any cars parked on or near the lawn, and again, will make sure that the City contacts us about it. The greatest thing about this neighbor though is his concern for our salvation. Every few months he stops by to let us know that he and his "friends" can help us find God again (weren't aware we'd even lost him!)

We also have another neighbor who is kind enough to let us know when he leaves in the morning and comes back at night by turning up his bass so loud that my house shakes.

I could go on forever about all the things that I love about Charlotte, but no one wants to read a novel.

Oh- and Mark loves his hometown because his Police Chief just got arrested on child Porn charges and solicitation of a minor charges- all from his taxpayer provided office.

Should he be drawn & quartered or pull the weed up by the root with a public hanging. What a dumbass. :shaking:

I love my home town because it's where I grew up. It's where I know so many people. It's hard to go anywhere and not run into someone I don't know. Sometimes I know Leslie wonders why it takes me so long to go anywhere.
What I don't like is the city and county planners. They re-zone your land with no heads up at all. The allow industry after industry to leave the area. Loosing with it the tax base we need to survive, and the much needed jobs. But then again, while incentives may start at the local area, the problem goes much higher in government.
The sorry medical care that is provided here is unbelievable! That as Mrs CRS said, would be a novel.
I don't live IN my home town, but as far away as I can get from it, and still be in the same county.
Ok nuf of this

The police Chief??

Any rezoning is required to have public notice. Typically that will include signs posted on the property, 1st class mailings to affected properties and those adjacent and notice in the local newspapers. As for industry, the federal govt. is the responsible party, not the locals. Local governments are usually tripping over themselves to preserve jobs and encourage new ones but the federal trade policies make that nearly impossible.

Oh yeah, I love my home town and can't wait to get back.

I think me and catfishblues are the only ones here from Pfafftown. Its a decent little town because every one knows each other. But generally speaking the only things I like about NC are the mountains and the wheeling. I'm not a big fan of the south.

I love my hometown because its my hometown and have been gone too long, dislike it for reasons I need not bring up on here. That and Case farms Can be really RANK sometimes.

I agree with chip, being that I grew up about 5 miles from where he lives. As far away as possible and still in the same county.

Well I was BORN in charlotte...does that make it my hometown?

Ive lived most of my life here in Hickory though. Ive got no complaints about the place, but I dont have any real outstanding things to say about it either. Its a place to live I suppose, and thats about it.

So you're "that guy" in the neighborhood too....I used to live in a historic district, they really loved me over there.

We're "that guy" that leaves for work at 6:00am, returns between 7:30 and 8:00pm and still manages to get the lawn taken care of. Unfortunately, we have a tendency to go out of town every once in a while, and that's when they get us. And it's not the grass that get's too long, it's the weeds/shoots that grow 6" overnight, so we get home, it rains for two days so we can't mow the lawn, then before the week is out, we get "the letter".

Apparently the City of Charlotte is too busy to go out and find violations on their own, so they hold training classes for citizens to teach them how to spot the violators and report them. I guess in a nutshell, my biggest problem with Charlotte/Mecklenberg is that they reall seem to have their priorities way out of order, hence the brand new Bobcats Arena.

My neighbor wanted to put a home on his mothers land. He went to get permits and was informed it had been re-zoned 2 years ago. News to me. No signs, no letters. There might have been something in the paper, but I don't subscribe to it. So, I told him I would deed him a quarter acre, so he would have the needed 2 acres, so they then told him then I wouldn't have enough?
My Deed says one home per half acre, so does hers. So, I have no clue.

You better look into that. I'm going through a zoning "thing" right now. They are trying to put a business in a restricted residential zone. Anyway for any zoning changes the owner and the adjoining property owners MUST recieve registered letters of the preposed changes. Then there is a public hearing.

Yes I get the same letter from the town of Landis about my grass and weeds, I have one signed by the Police Chief, got to love it.

Do I miss my home town ? Hell NO!

population ~4500, No industry in town, a gas station, no grocery store (used to be but is now a Dollar General), dry community (no alcohol sold in town) this has caused a convieniance store to fold and the grocer to move out.

4.5 miles of paved road all with curbs and sidewalks. 3 schools (2 elementary one Middle school, Highschool is 10 miles away in another town)

Most of the folks I grew up with are still there, only now they are either renter/owner of a house not much different than what they grew up in (cookie cutter prefab/slab built, only variation is lot orentation/floor plan flip) or if they happen to have a decent job, might live on the OTHER side of town where the newer homes are built.

Everyone knows everybody elses business, and do a good job of minding all but thier own.

Those that still have drivers licenses still visit the same bars (in another town), sitting on the same stools, drinking the same beer, wearing the same (pick one-->Def Leppard, Ratt, Ozzy) T-shirt, and wearig the same mullet as they have done since they learned how to smoke Hard Box Reds.

It really is a nice little mid-western town, I just have to many negetive memories of the last few years I spent there before figuring out there was life outside Mulletville.

Oh, and then there is/was the law enfarcemnt making up reasons to pull you over for impromtu searches and general harassment.

yeah, I miss all that

I'd just whoop my neighbors ass and be done with it.

Home town, Amsterdam, NY Upstate/Mohawk Vally, Lower Adirondack area I do miss it at times, but only because ALL of my family lives there. While the local community college and state schools are great (at a price) But the job market is dead. I do love my new home (Wake Forest).. Been here for 8 years now, no intentions of leaving..

Zoneing - Ya i see the rezoning signs in the ditch knocked over.. where youd get killed tring to stop to read them.. What good does only notifiying adjoining property of a change, Id like to know what areas are being consumed by 500 home subdivisions too..

Neighbors - Well I could write a book talking about the problem we had with 1 neighbor growing up.. PM me if you interested in 'fun' things you can do to your neighbor that are almost impossible to trace...

I loved my hometown only after I left it. Then I got here and thought, a small town is the only way to go. I hate it because of all the f#@%in' Californians moving into town and trying to make it lust like california. (The reason they left cally was cause they didn't like how things were done there. Now they want to do the same things in town.) JUST GO THE HELL BACK TO CALIFORNIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rant over: I also gotta say it's one of the prettiest places around. Just wouldn't move back. Thinkin' about Wyoming or Montana. (City life sucks balls.)

I can see your point on that one. But unless you want to pay your local govt. officials to go door to door notifying everybody in the county/city about every rezoning or new subdivision there must be a limit. Most states set that limit for required notice. Beyond that it's up to the individual to ensure that they remain informed by reading the paper, going to meetings or getting on your elected board's mailing list.
