I have an unopened can of Iron City beer from the Browsn/Steelers game on November 26, 1995. Would like to send it to a friend of mine who lives up in Washington State.

Every time I ship something at the post office, they ask me if there's anything liquid and/or pressurized in the box. Considering this is both (or at least it used to be), what are my options for shipping it? Will UPS or FedEx take it, if the post office wont? And are there any laws about sending alcohol in the mail?

Best option is to say "no" and ship it anyway...

I'm sure you will technically be breaking all kinds of interstate commerce laws, distribution of controlled substances, etc.

But I bet if you put it in a display case and call it memorabilia, it would be good to go...

I would ask the postmaster, Just sayin....

Pack it with 2" of packing on all sides and put it inside a couple ziplock bags. You can print postage right from usps website and just put it in the mailbox.

Get you a box a good bit bigger than the can. Spray some Great Stuff in the bottom. Let it set up. Then spray some more in there and lay a piece of plastic over the top of the wet stuff. Push can down into the mush. Cover with another piece of plastic and fill box full of Great Stuff(foam insulation in a can) let set, trim off excess. Seal box and send.

Or tell him to go buy it at the store. they have a Distributor in WA. State: Washington

Browar Polska, Inc.

Second thought... is it really worth all that to ship Iron City Beer?

When I ship my homebrew( glass bottles) for competitions, I wrap them in bubble wrap and pack in a box before I take it to the UPS store. Put a fragile sticker on it. Never had a problem. If they ask ? I tell them it is "live yeast samples for analysis".:)

Pssst - they probably don't sell 15 year old cans from a specific game. :flipoff2:

Ever heard of Beer of the Month Clubs? They ship beer all the time... I've had memberships... unfortunately that was awhile ago and I can't remmebr what service they came in... but IIRC it was a pretty regular box.

I say - pick up the damn telephone an call your local post office. That'd take less time than asking a bunch of yahoos in the interwebs...

I plan on calling the PO as well. Just figured there were enough beer drinkers in here that surely someone had tried to ship or receive some via the US mail. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Here is a second vote for "Great Stuff". Sure there are thousand of ways to package and ship a collectable can of beer, but are any of them as entertaining?

I bet if the delivery truck was flexing on the loading ramp and flopped it, your can of beer would be the safest too!

A 15 year old can of beer is an accident waiting to happen. Put it on a shelf and wait for it to leak out and destroy everything around it. If you're planning to keep this thing for the long haul you really should pop a pinhole in the bottom and drain the liquid. Take a sip to remember it by.

Somebody is gonna get Iced in 5 days or so. Thanks for the idea, you get full credit.

Lol haven't thought of that method, we upgraded the icing to 22 oz smirnoffs though, Iced 2 buddies in one night and thought it was funny as hell, next night they get me in the middle of dinner at a local restaurant, gotta hop down on 1 knee and chug a 22 of smirnoff, get yelled at by the manager for bringing in outside beverages, tears my stomach up for the rest of the night.

As for mailing the can, great stuff would probably protect it best, just make sure you wrap the can with plastic wrap and place it in a ziplock prior to placing it in the stuff.

Exactly! I'm as black and gold as anyone I know and the contents of an Iron City beer can sucks. Now, if it's a commemorative can, that's a different story. I like the Great Stuff idea.

Mail it to me, I'll drive it out to your buddy for gas and food!
