Manual gauges vs. electric

What would be the pro's and con's? Could I use them on my '93 302 High Put motor in my YJ or does the ECU need that information to make it run - which Im thinking no considering it runs fine now and only 2 gauges are plugged in. :shaking:
 
The ECM needs to see the coolant temperature sensor and the oil pressure sensor. There are two coolant senders... one has a couple of wires and goes to the ECM, the other has one wire, and goes to the dash gauge.

So long as you keep those hooked up, the computer doesn't care.

As for mechanical vs electric... it's really a personal choice. Electric is generally easier to install, being that you don't have to worry about kinking capillary tubes or chafing oil lines, etc. But full-sweep mechanical gauges are cheaper than full-sweep electrics. Either one will do the job just fine.
 
My jeep is wired with a painless wiring kit and engine is wired with a Ford Racing harness so the electric stuff is easy - just a real mess. Wires aren't long enough or they are too long. Just trying to go clean. I dont mind cutting holes in my Jeep, so its not a big deal to run the mechanical lines so they are well protected and not having to criss cross around the engine bay etc...

Time to go find some cool gauges on eBay. :) Anyone wants a set of Old Tymer Black Auto Meter gauges let me know... I'll let them go for cheap!

Speedo has .9 or 9 miles on the odometer
tach is like the others but isnt.

I paid around $280. They all work, have had them in the dash for literaly a year with maybe 5 hours of them actually being used.
 
If you go mechanical, be sure to buy a HP braided stainless line for the oil press. Nothing like being sprayed with hot oil when the vinyl line gives. SB

No joke... I was looking at the little white/clear line that it comes with... :gay:... Im definetly going to make sure that I :bling: it out so I dont have any issues. :huggy:

I've had that in my Jeep for about 8 yrs now, no problem.
Before that, I did have a chafing issue and it leaked in to the cab..on a co-workers shoe :lol:
