Looks like I will be looking for a job in May unless I manage to royally screw up one of the easiest semesters I have had. I would really like to work/live somewhere in the Lenoir/Boone/Morganton area, but Im not too sure of who there is to work for in that area. Mainly what Im looking for a is a list of companies in the region that do engineering or similar work, and since a lot of you guys are from the area I would like your input. Also, personal experiences are a plus. Thanks in advance.

I've been looking in the Morganton/Lenoir/Hickory for several months now, although I'm in civil engineering, and also trying to keep on with the state of NC...
ain't much in CE stuff, but there's a lot of furniture & other manufacturing that I'll bet you could get on with...
good luck!

Bump, anything else?

I worked as a CAD designer at Nacco Material Handling something or other (parent company of Hyster and Yale) in Lenoir, right next to the Broyhill factory. They design, build, and test electric motors for forktrucks. I left around '97 and havent maintained any contacts, so the whole place could be gone for all I know.

I worked in Lansing during 2004 for United Chemi-Con. They manufacture capacitors and other electrical stuff. They had openings then. It was a good place to work, but the boss is a Japaneese dude and we could not get along.

I work at Borg Warner in Asheville we make turbos. They are always hunting engineers you might check with them.

Anything more specific about what you'd like to do? Consulting, manufacturing, etc.?

Well, I don't exactly know what I want to do. I would like to do something interesting and exciting, that pays extremely well, but requires little time and effort. This thread was really for me just to get an idea of what companies are around the area, and then I would do the research on the companies and jobs.

  Wrong profession

That sounds like the description for a race car driving job.

I agree... The only such "jobs" that come to mind that truely fit that criteria are:

1) Crack dealer... ("interesting"... like hiding out & running from the LEOs :shaking: )
2) Porn Star... (very "exciting" I'm sure, but may require too much "effort" )

Everything else carries compensation indirect proportion to labor output...

I kinda like the tax-free aspect of the crack dealer. I just don't think I would be so fond of my "colleagues" at work.

I'll keep an eye out, but sadly all of the industries (therefor other businesses too) have been leaving the area for the last few years leaving far less jobs than there used to be. (as you know). It just makes it hard.

Appreciate it.

Might as well join the mob;
The benefits are Okay....
