Mile marker hub install

I just installed a set of mile marker hubs on my j10 dana 44 front axle. On the long side part of the axle I could pull the shaft out far enough to put snap on the 2nd grooves part of the stub shaft, but on the short side I could only pull the stub shaft out to the 1st grooved part of the axle. Now the hub on the side I could barely pull out the locking hub moves ever so slightly, is this normal.

I watched a video and the guy put the clip on the first grooved part of axle and it was the same side I am having trouble with (short side)

I’ll preface my statement with “I’m familiar with Toyota axles only!”, but I’d recommend using the outer most slot. It’ll allow the axle shaft to slide in further when you’re turning lock to lock.

Snap rings on the end of the stub?

Throw them in the trash.

you don't need them. The stub floats in the hub. it can't move either way enough to loose any spline contact.

This. I don't use the shaft snap ring on and straight axle 44 or 60.

Ok I figured out why the hub slides back and forth/in and out, I didn’t even take this into consideration but I had to grind down about 2 threads of the spindle to get the hub to sit correctly to get the hub snap ring to fit. That’s why it slides back and forth, I don’t think this will be a problem.
