I took the buggy down to UNF yesterday around 3 to do some "high speed" testing. Figuring there wouldn't be anyone there. I ran into (almost literally) a group of military hummers (maybe 6-8) of them along with several on 4 wheelers. It was dark about 6:30 or so when I came up on them. I rounded a corner and got back on the throttle hard only to slam on brakes. They were riding up the trail with no lights on and all wearing night vision goggles. From the looks of them shielding their eyes, my HID's were blinding them. Pretty creepy to see all of them with lights off, goggled up rolling up RML.

I have been told they train in there but never seen them. Getting ready for some West Coast bashing?

A couple of years ago I was in Ure's and watched them train. They where training young men to drive the Hummers on rough terrain to help prepare them for Afganistan. They where teaching on Kodak.

haha, they're prolly back on base saying "pretty creepy to see some asshat with 2424242 lights blinding us doing 100mph on the trail we were going 10mph on"

I not quite as literally as you ran into a convoy of military Hummers on the dirt road (576) way out past the turn offs for the OHV trails, along the shore of Badin Lake.

I've seen Military Humvees at the Outpost. They were getting lunch.

I guess the senior NCOs and officers go get fresh fried chicken while everyone else has cold MREs

Yeah theyre training out there. I talked to them today cause I was workin at the albemarle armory.

Last time I was at Uwharrie, we passed a bunch of dudes in some really hot looking gear hoofing it up Daniel. First time I had seen that.

I think the USMC has owned it all along ????

There is 29 palms and hundreds of thousands of acres there in the mojave, but not the land around the hammers. They were/are looking at expanding either eastward or westward another couple hundred thousand acres. The westward expansion would include all of the hammers trails.

My favorite was on Wolfs Den there were a bunch of hikers. They were about half way through the trail and then we drove by. I think their trip leader was slightly confused on which trails were which.

On that day it was raining and I just happened to be driving a Land Rover Discovery. I will NEVER forget the look on one guy's face. It was the look of, "I WANT TO BE IN THERE" look.

Poor bastid.

alrighty then...

anyways, they were probably geocachers. Go to geocaching.com and read the logs by the people who have hiked the OHV trails in search of McTreasure, they can be pretty funny.

I think the full military gear would indicate that they were not your average geocacher :flipoff2:

dont they have plenty of places on bragg to do driving/training?
I grew up there, still got family there and it aint flat on all of bragg.

just wondering... why ure

They have been doing training ar URE for a LONG time, I know since the early 80's becasue I was there. You would get dropped in the back side and have to hike out using unknown distances.
