Does anyone know if you can fit drums on the axle instead of what's there? I heard a rumor that stated you can take a specific year chevy and the drums will fit the MH axles. Is there any truth to this?

I thought that those were a standard #3500 capacity axle could be mistaken

I've done some searching but what I want is to put a new hub assembly so I can ditch the donut rims and put on standard rims. The ones now have the wide 5 bolt pattern with the small pieces that the bolt runs through to keep the donut on.

I also want a way to hook up the brakes but that's just wishful thinking. I believe the backing plate is welded to the tube and they're electric. I don't know of any good rebuild kits that are affordable.

I have some backing brake plates for a #3500 axle if you figure it out & need some what I have is NOS for $30 a wheel:huggy:

you will have to change the backing plates, hubs and everything.

I hate to say it, but Kev is right.

I have denied this for 5 years, but the time has come, that my trailer brakes are gone and you cant even buy shoes for the damn things.

I will probably be buying new axles later this year, unless I find another steal of a deal on some MH axles....

pm me
there is a never ending supply of good wheels/tires but ii have yet to find brakes anywhere

Ron, Have you tried Rednect Trailer Supply in Lincolnton?
I know Andy from CRS just got some stuff for his there recently.

Oh, and If you have extra, I need some wheels and tires for the ones you brought up to me

A couple years ago I changed out the mobile home axles on my dads trailer to 3500# axles from southwestwheel.com. It made a HUGE difference, the trailer tows so much better now. I didn't even change out the springs, just unbolted the old axles and bolted on the new ones. Those guys from Southwest Wheel are good to work with and they'll set up your axles however you want them.

I believe its Cooper mobile home movers (or something like that) in Garner that sells whole mobile home axles for
$65 each. picked up a non-braking axle from him a year or so ago, he had stacks and stacks of both braking and non braking axles as well as tires. Call a local mover, theyll have some or know where to get some.

if you look at the perch design on some and the lack of replacing brakes then yes I guess they might have limited use. Personally, we've been running them for 10+ years. I repacked the bearings a little while back and they still looked good. i think they are definitely a viable option as far as trailer axles go but you have to make slight modifications for long term use.

I have them on my trailer and they work good for me. I just added some grease to the bearings when I bought the trailer. Going strong for a little over two years now.
