monster truck rock crawling video

That is sweet, they need to make a competition with those. Thing is, it would be hard to find big enough stuff that is easily accessible that would give them a run for the money. They could do so much better with a little lower of a gear, and lockers would be needed too. I bet the clutch was begging for mercy when they were slipping it to not go insane on the hills.

Monster trucks are automatics-with very high stall converters, basicly a 4x4 supersize drag car.

wow that was cool.. you sure could see where lockers would come in handy

I was wondering when I posted if they had a set up like that, guess it is like a pulling truck where they just have a single lever and all they gotta do is push it forward?

That was awesome.

The guy at the end that said, "I want one" has something to do with the making of the Nylint Krawler from walmart. He is one of the founders of UROC also. pretty cool guy

it's funny you said that because the video reminds me of a RC commercial...i kept waiting for some giant kid to pop up behind the mountain with a remote and say "AWESOME!"

This just confirms the fact that monster trucks are the best for offroading. I've always wanted to see a monster truck enter the top truck challange and just spank the crap out of everyones butt. I tell you what though, I would love to know what it takes to get into the monster truck world, weather your a driver or just handle like PR or Advertising, etc. Monster trucks just are my favorite thing ever, sorry to the rockkrawlers and even the mud boggers, a monster truck would just spank you in everything, cause even if they cant get over it they can just throttle up and jump over it :driver:

They were running 5.5 ton Rockwells weren't they? Do they not offer lockers for that axle, or did those guys just not have em? Also, whatever axles those are, do they handle all that horsepower and tire size stock or are they like super cryoed shafts or something (maybe thats why they werent locked)? Don't they all run about the 66" tall tire size?

I would think it would be pretty tough to race on a cramped arena course with locked axles.

The guys in that video are nuts. I would hate to do an endo on that big climb at the end. I imagine that would really put that cage to the test crashing down on a solid boulder. Yikes!

Hammerdown DVD

Yeah, that video is awesome. It is from the Hammerdown DVD. One of the best 4x4 videos I've seen to date. Great music, camera work and action.:driver: I've been looking for Hammerdown II but haven't found it yet. :( I know they made a second one.

Heck yea, only thing they needed was lockers and like I said if they couldn't get over it all they had to do was launch over it :driver:

Anyone know what axles they were running? Wre those the 5 ton Rockwells? And can 5 ton Rockwells hold up to tires that big with the diffs locked?

The video was cool, but I would like to see those things fit on the trails in URE or Tellico or other places we trail ride.

Rockwells are oldschool for monster trucks. Most run clark or zf planitary axles.

well ricky your going to hate me for this, but im working at the monster truck show in fayetville this weekend. today was setup, tomorrow night will be the show. its funny though, i asked the guy who hired me how the hell he got my number and it was from an offroading club we had like my sophmore year of hs :fuck-you: . anyway, we got to check out the trucks today and they are BADASS. most run a keith black 572 (thats the limit for cubes) chevy big block with a blower pushing 1200 hp. the ones we saw today (the ninja turtle truck and gravedigger) were running casale V drives like the one in the twister buggy on pirate with a 2wd th400. it looked like they had 5 ton side loading rocks with planetary hubs but they may be tractor axles. ill ask tomorrow when they let me drive :flipoff2: oh yea, and the heims they have make anything we use look like toys. they are fawking huge

Thats awsome man, yea I'd love to get into that somehow, I've always had the idea in the back of my mind that after I graduate from college I'm gonna start building my own monster truck so i've been lookin at what it would take for me to build one, but we'll see if that actually flys or not, lol.

Wait, there gonna let you drive?????? Wow, I don't know if you were just kidding but that would be like the greatest moment of my life, lol :driver:

Hah...please enter one in a uroc comp--locked or not--and have fun watching it 40 every obstacle. That's not to say I wouldn't have a great time driving one, but they have their place...and it sure as shit isn't on a trail or comp. And as was said, they use zf planetary axles now...rocks were 80's technology.

Rick, NC has the best history on the monsters. There's a shop out on 74 past Monroe that repairs them. I guess Gary Porter (original Carolina Crusher) has something to do with it. Never had a chance to stop in but have seen three from the road before. Kirk Dabney was originally in Fayetteville and built some really unique monster trucks. He's in Alabama now still building trucks and street monsters (google him). There are others in NC but Grave Digger used to always put on the best show with Dennis or Pablo driving. They usually take the lockers out unless it's a full on drag I've heard so they can turn around. SC get the best crash rating from me, King Kong at the Myrtle beach Speedway crossing the road barrier, taking down the 76 sign and rolling on top of two MB police cruisers and catching fire. I love watching them and how their built.
