MORGANTON - Tim Corriveau normally spends his time as a sergeant with the Burke County Sheriff's Office pursuing suspects. Wednesday morning, one found him.
Sgt. Corriveau said he was headed out of his house on Hopewell Road on his way to work Wednesday morning when he saw an unfamiliar car parked in his drive. Corriveau said he approached the car and saw a man sleeping inside. After waking the occupant, Corriveau said he questioned the man and felt he was acting suspiciously. Cor-riveau said he took the man into custody despite resistance from the man.
Authorities identified the man as Phillip Carl Henson, 42, of Sylva. The car Henson parked in Corriveau's drive was stolen, deputies said.
Henson was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting an officer. Henson was held under bonds totaling $11,000. His first appearance in court is Friday.
Walking out of the Sheriff's Office on Wednesday, Henson was asked about his reaction to having parked in a law enforcement officer's driveway. "It definitely wasn't a stroke of good luck," he said.
