Motor Mount Fab - UPDATE

Seems the OEM motor mounts for a 4 cyl Jeep aren't designed to withstand the torque a 205 crawl ratio can deliver :) After wasting my third one in a year and a half I decided to try something a little more substantial. Rather than drop $ on an aftermatket design I decided to try this first. Welded a piece of tube in the top and installed some old leaf spring polyurethane bushings, shaped the stock rubber block to follow the tube conture. Wasn't sure whether to take the rubber out and brace it with a piece of steel or not. Will see how this works first.

So the original rubber is just there to fill in space, right? Looks like the new tubing is welded to the strap that goes over the top?

Without knowing how thick that steel is, I think it might bend as the rubber below it "gives" over time, but it might just work.. If not you can always put a piece of steel in there..

It'll CERTAINLY work better than the OEM one! :)

Good stuff..

THe same style mount is used for the 6cyl jeeps as well, I doubt you'll have issue with the way you've "re-engineered" the factory mounts.

I doubt the torque for the 205 have much to do with it, they self destruct naturally even in stock Jeeps

Good job, and cheaper than the MORE expensive alternitives.

UPDATE
After 4 days of banging at Callalantee the fabrication part of the motor mount held up fine. Welds are good, strap and bushings seem to be as installed. I did lose one of the bolts holding the mount in as can be seen in the (crappy) pic. Will reinstall with loctite.
