I got an M101A3 trailer that I use for many things, among them it's my parts-go-getter. I've had a hoist on the back corner that I built about 20 years ago...but it had some drawbacks, mainly not tall enough (it just had a fixed lifting arm).

So, last week, with a little cutting and welding, it turned into this:

Top beam is 3x4 x 1/4" x 60" (was 3x3x4' fixed horizontal), upright is a 4" pipe sleeved over and pivoting on a 3.5" pipe. Hinge pin is 1" x 8" GR8 bolt, sleeved with 1" ID .25" DOM thru the lifting arm. Pump is an old Monarch 303 vertical 12 volt. Cylinder is 16" x 2" stroke. I have a removable handle extending 5' out, 90* to the lifting arm (on the back side in the photo) so can rotate and control without being right at or under the load. I have 2 hooks near the end of the lifting arm for chains or straps, and a 12v winch, double lined. ...and, a 4-button wired pendant control for hydraulic up/down and winch in/out.

Now fetching parts is even easier. :D

Very nice. Looks like that could come in handy.

I used a bulldog tongue jack 5 or 6k capacity. You can see it sticking up in the pic to the right side of the hoist. Also, the crane base has a cross-brace of 3x3 tubing running to the opposite side of the trailer.

Picked up over 1k pounds several years ago, and forgot to lower the support jack...bent that corner of the trailer frame. No big problem...had another frame to swap in. That's when I added the cross brace. It's been like this 12 years or so.

Jack is like this one:
