I got an M101A3 trailer that I use for many things, among them it's my parts-go-getter. I've had a hoist on the back corner that I built about 20 years ago...but it had some drawbacks, mainly not tall enough (it just had a fixed lifting arm).
So, last week, with a little cutting and welding, it turned into this:
Top beam is 3x4 x 1/4" x 60" (was 3x3x4' fixed horizontal), upright is a 4" pipe sleeved over and pivoting on a 3.5" pipe. Hinge pin is 1" x 8" GR8 bolt, sleeved with 1" ID .25" DOM thru the lifting arm. Pump is an old Monarch 303 vertical 12 volt. Cylinder is 16" x 2" stroke. I have a removable handle extending 5' out, 90* to the lifting arm (on the back side in the photo) so can rotate and control without being right at or under the load. I have 2 hooks near the end of the lifting arm for chains or straps, and a 12v winch, double lined. ...and, a 4-button wired pendant control for hydraulic up/down and winch in/out.
Now fetching parts is even easier.
