My wife and I always try to take a little vacation for our anniversary, this year I think I'm going to try and surprise her by actually planning something for once.

Thinking of trying to find a nice quiet cabin up in the mountains for a Friday-Sunday trip. Depending on the price maybe a Thurs night-Sunday, but more than likely it would be a Friday morning-Sunday trip.

Something quiet and away from other cabins, preferrably with A/C because I am a pansy.

Gotta have a hot tub, because it is our anniversary after all.

Anyone have any recommendations?

If you are looking to go to the Boone area, check out Valle Crucis Cabin Rentals www.logcabinrentals.com, I have had great success with them, and almost all have hot tubs ;)

My wife and I take a trip every year to the mountains, we use this site, has alot to choose from. You can pick woods, mountain views, or river cabins. Good luck, we usually stay in Maggie Valley....love that place.

Years ago I had a great time in Gatlinburg area but after going up there the middle of last month Ive completely lost interest in it. If I was 12 again and all I wanted to do was ride go carts and shop for overpriced junk it would be great. Nowadays it seemed to be a joke. Stayed in a very nice cabin but the furniture wasn't comfortable at all. Unless you were in the hot tub or in the recliner that was on the main level you weren't comfortable. Definitely wont be going back anytime soon. As for the attractions, Nothing was worth it and it was way too crowded. Looking forward to going back to the Outer Banks this year and relaxing on the vacant beaches for the week.

Btw, I hear there are condos in Boone that you can rent for $89 a night. With all the hiking and down home feel in Boone you cant beat it.

Going to bump this, still looking. I found a good place but it is a three night rental. We don't have any way to do more than a 2 day since we have nowhere to send the kids for a third night. I suggested boarding them at the kennel, but that was a no go.

The girlfriend and I rented "Bear Necessities" last year and plan on going back later this spring. I can honestly say you will not find a nicer small cabin ANYWHERE. It was freakin outstanding. The kitchen is actually stocked with everything except big grocery items and everything is open for consumption per the owners. We took all of our food, but it was nice to have full spice racks, condiments and such. We may also have indulged in some snacky stuff, but don't remember for sure. Oh, and the beds are very high quality.

Meadows of Dan, Va

Thanks for the help bulldogg213, Meadows of Dan already sounds great to me.
Cool ! I bought 7 acres up there and plan to build 4 small 1 room cabins on top of the mountain there...all along the Blue Ridge Parkway you will find many "million dollar views" Iv been going there for 10 years now and I cant find a more peaceful place than Meadows of Dan...
