how and where is the best way/place to mount a hi-lift jack to my tj?

This is a stock bumper that i mounted d-rings and a hitch adapter on. So its still sock. I welded two 9/16 bolts to top of bumper and two nuts and two washers holds it tight. I go wheeling with it there and it has never loosened up even in the Uwharrie Rock race last year. Simple and very cheap.

i have the spare tire still mounted. jack won't fit.

Anywhere you see fit. Really just depends on what you have holding it down. If you are using bungee cords, its best left in the mud where it will get lost.

On the front or rear bumpers are the most popular. You can also mount to the hood or the windsheild frame.

You going to buy any after market peices to hold it on or rig something yourself? Let me know if ya want a hand.

There's an easy enough way to mount it to the rear Rollbars at the tub using Pipe Clamps, carriage bolts and Wing nuts. I don't have a picture as it was my buddies TJ. but it's a good place that's out of the way.

thanks y2k.
Does mounting to the bars affect the soft top?

You should mount it to the rear roll bar inside the jeep like Brent suggested with the fence clamps. I think I have some fence clamps leftover if anybody wants them. Tony...

I did mine this way after seeing Joel's setup. Only costs about 4$, the jack is out of the weather and out of the way. The top fits fine and the jack doesn't touch it. And just to elaborate, the pipe clamps are actually the clamps used on chain link fences. Open up the clamp, put it around the bar, throw in a carriage bolt, put on a regular neu to hold it tight, slide the jack over the long bolt (through one of the many holes in the jack) and tighten it down with a wing nut.

I like that spot.. nice and out of site so it wont get stolen as well.

I had mine several spots on my Jeep in the past.

I did have it beside the spare tire on a bumper bracket, standing straight up and pushed to the side so the tailgate will open. It worked great.

I did also have it spaning across the rear fenders a shown above.

Also had it on the front mounted just above the winch. didn't like that.

I've seen some mount it on the hood/cowl. Seems like its out of the way there

This is the best pic of the pipe clamp setup that I could find.

as long as i have access to my "cargo" area, the roll bar mount sounds sweet.

I used KC lights hood hinge mounts and made the holes bigger to be able to adjust brackets. Worked pretty good, but did make it harder to open the hood all the way.

Great idea guys, I made mine today...approx 10in long and 2in wide. I had to make sure it fit behind the seat, and kids wouldnt hit their heads on anything. Oh and I flipped the jack over to aim down...less hazardous.
I will make up a few extra sets if anybody wants to buy some.
