I bought some used rock rails from a guy, they look like this

I'm not saying these are the same as I don't know who made mine, but they look like the only way to mount them is to drill holes in the frame and put them on. Is it possible to weld them onto the frame instead? Would welding them on be stronger than drilling holes. I just don't like the idea of drilling holes in the frame. There are at least 8 holes to drill per step and I was wondering if welding wouldn't be a better option.

Thanks

i made some custom ones for my trooper that i welded on. i didn't want to take the time to drill the holes. i have never had any problems as far as strength goes. just make sure you like them b/c it will be more than difficult to cleanly remove them and you'll need to be a good welder to weld vertical and upside down.

I would not weld them. Drilling holes and then bolting these up will not weaken the frame. welding would be stronger probably, but not enough to really matter at this point. And more than likely, you're gonna change your mind later, take them off, sell them, and build your own. That's exactly what I just did and I'm glad I didnt weld them to begin with.

Becareful if you weld not to heat up any fuel lines or brake lines, same caution if you drill and bolt.

Thanks guys

I should have stated I won't be the one welding them. Haven't done any welding since HS and I would really need to practice for a long time before I was ready for that. I've had them just sitting in the garage since September when I got them. With a few days at my inlaws coming up this weekend I was looking to knock out some projects on the brick.
