Yeah, mud is the devil, I know, but I did my first official mud bog race today over at Lee County Motorsports and I'm HOOKED !!

My question is this, what do y'all recommend, 4 low or 4 high ?

I did 4 high and I was happy with the results, 2nd after the first lap and 7th overall out of 13 drivers.

I was wondering though if 4 low would have been better.

I would imagine 4 high would be better, depending on how much you shift gears/gears are shifted they might be too close together for 4 low to work well.

From what I gather, wheelspeed is king, so whatever you have to run to get it, be it 1st/2nd high range, or 4th in low..

but Mud racing is FAR from my area of 'expertise'

wheel speed for the win!

the more the better. big motor, big tires, lockers, and wheel speed almost always wins the race :)

I guess I should have added that it is an automatic so manual shifting doesn't play into this.

And I have a front locker and that was engaged.

I'm not looking to mod the jeep for mudding, lord knows I have too many expensive hobbys as it is, I just want to know if 4 high was the right way to go

Thanks Everyone !!

And I thought you loved mud Smoke ( aka Rich ) ??

Depends on the power of your engine to some degree but most of the closer to streetable vehicles I know run 4 low.
I run 4 low with 36's 4.56 rear / 4.10 front and a strong 304.
I'm going to 4.88s spools FR/RR and will run low range (2:1) as well.

James, didn't know you run the mud bogs!
You running higher gear in from for more wheelspin and better steering?
