Ok , heres a silly question, I just wanted other input and yall probably have it.

I drove the jeep through the mud pit at the farm. I usually wouldnt, but there were so many people looking and I couldnt help myself:driver:
I have it all cleaned up ...sorta...Now my engine is all red due to my stupidity. Its just covered and jampacked with red mud.

My question is......Whats the best way to clean it?

Should I straight up pressure wash it?
Should I just use a garden hose with minimal pressure on it?
Other?

I promise never to knowingly drive into a mud pit again.
Maybe on the trails when I happen accross one, but never again into a comp. mud pit!

Give your kid and toothbrush and tell him to get to work! LOL

I put a bag over the dist. & stay off the throttle body & pressure wash the hell out of mine then donot start for a day or 2 after sitting in the sun with the hood open(closed at nite)

i took my yota through it with half doors and i pressure washed the whole thing inside, outside, engine comp. I didn't cover nothing, not even the radio and it all still works fine. It might just be a TOYOTA thing. I did let it dry for three days before messing with it.:smokin:

Water id down w/ garden hose. Let it soak in for a while, repeat a few times, It should start washing off without too much effort.. I've use the sprinkler on the underside, that works well. Same deal water it down. Let it sit (save water). Then hit it again in a bit... The red stains.... well your on your own...

Go to the local car wash and spray it down good with the high pressure soap/water. Then soak it with the foaming tire cleaner. Let it sit a little while, then wash that off with the high pressure soap/water, and then rinse it clean. The tire cleaner normally gets rid of mud pretty well.

The hard part ois getting it off of headers/exhaust etc. On my Yota it's baked onto the headers, hard as a rock. Basically the red Carolina clay has become pottery.

Ah, there's nothin' like that smell while it's wet and baking on, too....

Im gonna do all of the above posts. Except the carwash....they will shoot me if I hose it down there!

And yes, Ratlabguy, I know and like the smell too.

Dylan the car washes have traps that fill with stuff and then they have them pumped out. I have been going to car washes for ever, most that ever happened is the owner coming by and looking at my muddy Jeep and shaking his head in disbelief. after washing it off, hit it with the tire cleaner then wash it again. You'd be surprised how clean you can get it.

yeah, thats some crazy stuff..goin in the mud pit. Kinda fun at first, but not really my thing. Like I said it wont happen again, on purpose.

Dont matter now, I just started it up, cranked up the pressure washer, stood on the fender and let her have it. Got it good enough. Still got the red stains though. Thanks for the input guys.

Though it sounds like you got it under control, Ill offer my input anyway.
Knock as much off as you can with a pressure washer (hot water is even better), then spray everything with purple power, and by the time you get done spraying everything, hit it again with the pressure washer. I still have mud caked to my exhaust manifold from years of stupidity, but everything else under the hood is spotless. TJ's from 2000-on have the coil over plug ignition (no distributor) which is pretty much waterproof, so you don't really have to worry about that. Andy most everything else is well sealed or well protected from a stream from above (in case your engine catches fire too ;))
