Here are the specs 87 4 Runner 22re 5spd 250,000 mi. When driving I notice that the motor studders like it is skipping this only happens when I am between 2-3000rpm and only with the gas pedel in the possition were you are trying to maintain a speed you know not giving gas but not coasting either. It does not do this studdering when you give it gas or when you let off. It also does it some when idling but no near as bad. My question is what causes this and how can I fix it, it is really irratating

throttle position sensor probably, but let other people give suggestions

I MIGHT have one that will fit, but I doubt it.

If that turns out to be the problem, it is cheaper to buy one from Toyota, and I know someone that works there so he can get a better price. I think I might have paid about $80 for mine.

TPS is a probability, but go for the cheap stuff first, ignition stuff.

My old '85 Runner had a similar issue and it was cured by replacing the ignition coil. A good set of wires a nd plugs wouldn't hurt either ( the basics are cheap and easy)

Might consider fuel filter too (pain in the ass to change) is above the started and below the intake, and a REAL MF to change, you need 3 hands and a dis-jointed elbow. ( plugged up filter could casue a lean miss )

Mine does this too. I've tried a few parts from the leftover pile. ECM, a/f meter, coil, fuel filter, cap, rotor, wires, ignitor, plugs, injectors, tps. The only thing that gets rid of it is backing the timing down about 5~7 degrees which also kills the power. If I can find that distribitor and other tps, I'm going to try them next.

CHECK PLUGS AND WIRES AS WELL. AND PLEASE DO NOT PUT IN BOSCH PLAT PLUGS IF NEEDED. THEY DO NOT WORK WELL IN TOYOTAS (THEY DO MAKE GOOD FISHING WEIGHTS THOUGH)

Yo,
May be a vacuum related problem (leak) since unloaded engine stutter is where high vacuum occurs. With 250k miles, those vacuum lines are getting rotten. For a few bucks you can replace them all and the move on to PVC valve and EGR....likely sticking.

My $0.02
