Ok, she is getting the big test this weekend! Up to WV and back for some wheeling...so far it seems to tow just fine.

More pictures of the excursion rebuild here for those interested:

Sweet! Now all ya gotta do is replace that thing on the trailer with a 'Yota.. :flipoff2:

Nice! Do you have a spare for that trailer? Get your dad to paint the trailer too since he did such a good job on the x-bus. The Excursion looks great! Although the pics are kinda fuzzy. :D

"Note to self.......get Sam Hinton a new digital camera for x-mas."

Lee, the trailer seems to to well, Dad got someone who knew them well to show him the balancing tricks and they run pretty true. Before it would vibrate enough at 35mph to make me nauseous. I towed it to Windrock and back on the trailer and it did great so I am pretty happy with it.

As for the picture...I really don't understand, I have to "MS Photo Editor" it down to 800x600 it looks fine there but when I upload it here it looks like CRAP. My originals are like 4mb files and very sharp...well you have seen the results on webshots...so it is losing something in the shrinking/uploading here?

Sam

Are the originals jpg's or bitmaps? If they're bmp's, try reducing those first and THEN saving them as jpg's. Just a guess, but it might work.

Looks great Sam.

here ya go.....glad you could join the club! :D

Okay Sam.... I gotta ask.

I count at least six straps and chains (including the winch cable) holding down the front of the Jeep.... because that PSD lays down some serious fawking power once the turbo spools.

But I see one chain at the rear. Either you don't have much faith in your brakes, or you're looking for an excuse to replace those barn doors, eh?

winch cable? yikes! wouldn't recommend that, it's hell on the winch brake and cable.

Is that a snatch block?

So.... the winch is acting as a chain binder, then?

Dude.... you need to go get yourself a box of Gr.70 or 80 chain, some choker hooks, and four or five chain binders.

Seriously.

On the front... is a #### chain (I honestly don't know the rating but a big honkin beefy sucker, something out of dad's stuff)...crisscrossed around the axles in a big X shape to the front corners of the trailer. Then the winch cable goes up front to a snatch block and back to the chain as a "binder" as mentioned. Then after getting tightened down, because I wanted to make sure the winch, etc wouldn't let go, I put a second chain thru the setup and used an actual binder to tighten it up. (let off a hair on the winch so 2nd chain/binder is bearing part of the load too)

So..the front is a crisscrossed chain "binded" with both a winch cable and a second dual hook binder/second chain.

On the rear...an even BIGGER honkin chain...links are nearly as big as my thumb...I get it tight, then drive fwd which put the pressure on it. (Then do the front...) It bends my rear springs in a bit of an S shape so I want to rethink all of this at some point.

So...that is the setup...I am sure it isn't perfect...and willing to read/learn and do better! I keep eyeballing these axle straps at Northern Tools, and some big ratchet straps...but then I hear they are bad for "such and such" etc....sigh.

Anyhoo...towed great again this weekend...Excursion did well, found out it pulls good enough to get pulled for speeding, heh! (No ticket, pretty sure the guy mostly wanted to check out BUG/make sure I wasn't drinking/driving)

Yes..this was the rolled Excursion, thx!
Sam
