So Ive been buildin my TJ up slow. All stock underneath besides the lift. I cant decide what i want to do next. I dont plan on doin any hardcore offroadin in it because its my DD and its gotta get me through college. Right now i have 31 ATs on it. Heres what im lookin at gettin next.

Stinger http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/mercha...ys&Product_Code=RA-SH32&Category_Code=bum_rus
or
WARN grille guard http://www.quadratec.com/products/12022_422_07.htm
1 question on this, on quadratecs site it says i need the winch mount to be able to mount the guard, dont know if i NEED it or not?
or
Rock sliders, dont know what kind

either 32's or 33's, IDK
lookin for 5 of them, preferably in the 600-800 price range
any other good brands beside BFG

Right now i found a set of 33x12.50 for 730.00 plus shipping

Any advice on what i should look at for what Im gonna use it for

Also it is an 04 unlimited just incase that matters.

Thanks for all the help, Tanner

Dont bother with any of that overpriced shit right now...

Rocksliders would be a good idea (that was the last thing I put on mine...). I havent gotten any use out of them yet...but I know I will eventually, and it gives me piece of mind I suppose. I bought Warn Rocksliders, just because the Raleigh 4wp had them in stock, and I was on the way to Greenville to put them on. Honestly you can go cheap and get someone to help you put some thick angle iron on it.

as for tires....Ive got 32" BFG AT's on mine, bought them new from...4wp again (Charlotte this time). I spent about 800 on the tires and wheels together. I didnt get the spare though...still dont have one either :shaking:. They are good tires. Where are you going to college at? I chose AT's for mine, mostly because I know they are good on snow and ice, and thats all Boone gets during the winter months.

Id get rocksliders and a set of quick disconnects for your front swaybar if I was you...

A winch should be a good upgrade. Then I'd go with a locker or two then lift/tires/gears all at the same time. Then some armor, etc. Obviously, a decent cage, but for light wheeling and 31 to 32" tires, your factory cage should be good for now.

any chance this could be moved back to General Chit Chat? He cant post on this thread since hes not sponsored yet...

Hey Tanner, Dont worry about stingers. Lift, tires, gears....Rocker armor is also nice and it looks great too. A winch is also at the top of your list I hope. If you plan on keeping it and driving it everday then take it slow. Lockers are great but can get a little crazy on iced up roads. Aussie lockers are awesome as well for a DD. I will PM you morrow about the sponsor thing.

I'd skip the stinger unless it's a look your going for. As a DD and part time trail rig you probably won't find yourself in need of one, almost ten years in my TJ and haven't been there yet.

I have a Tomken winch mount/mini brush guard on my TJ and it has held up well over the years and it's about $180. With this you will be ready to add that winch when the time comes.

I like the poysin spyder, rocker knockers, Blue Torch Fab and the warrior rocker guards as well but I ended up with Sun Performance rocker guards and I have truly abused them with only scratches, which are easily fixed with rustolium, to show for damage. I prefer guards that attach to the body over frame only mounted ones, really helps to keep the sheet metal straight.

For a DD/weekend trail rig Maxxis Bighorns would be pretty good. I have 33x12.5x15's on my ZJ which is my DD/family trail rig and they have held up very well pulling double duty and they are pretty cheap if you shop around. I got mine in Creedmoor for about $20-40 cheaper than in Raleigh. You might even find better prices if your not in a hurry, I was.

Good luck, hope this helps

should mention...with tires.

Tire Rack has some of the cheapest prices you can find online for tires.

Call up 4wp (not the store...the actually Mail Order number) and ask them to pricematch the Tire Rack price. Then have them deliver the tires to your local 4wp store...

viola...cheap tires with no shipping cost.

nope..

tech stuff does not get posted in chit chat just because you are underage..

if you are underage then make some freinds get a sponsor.. but do nto try to get around the system by posting tech stuff in chit chat.. follow the rules and we can all get along

I would say he is lucky that I moved it so he can get answers, rather then just delete it :)

before I was sponsored I asked if my threads could stay in general chit chat because I wasn't yet...

and they usually stayed there...

but I guess it doesnt matter, hes getting sponsored soon either way. Hes actually a good one, so dont scare him off!

My TJ is a DD. 2 1/4 spacer lift. JKS 1 1/4" Body Lift sitting in the garage waiting for me to install it.

I had some bumpers made with recover points for my first purchase (before lift/tires). I figured if I got stuck...I needed some "good" way for someone to hook up to me.

Im running 33X10.50's (BFG A/T) on stock grizzly wheels. Its a good DD, and did pretty good at Uwharrie like this. I didnt disconnect the sway bar, mind you, but we had a good time just cruising the trails.

The next big expense I have coming up is a regear. I now cruise with 3.07's...and want 4.56's bad!!

My next not-so-big purchase is a set of AtoZ Rocker Guards.

BTW, I also splurged and bought a Kargo Master rack from a craigslist add. I love it. Nice look, and very functional for me. Ive hauled lots up there....and just the other day I climbed up there to cut down some mistle toe form a tree.

Hey guys, sorry i couldnt respond to anything yal were suggesting, i just got sponsored tonight. Just wanted to say i appreciate it and all the help yal have given me. Im definitely lookin at doin all those things when i have the funds to do so, haha.

Don't buy what can be made. Support a local vendor. There are plenty of guys who build alot of great stuff around here. Take a look around at everyones work and see what ya like. That way you get a winch mount that you know is going to work for you. hell, it might even save ya some money if your buying some of the higher priced brand name crap. Rock rails, spare tire mount, bumpers front and rear, cages, all that stuff can be made and fitted to your specific vehicle and needs and not manufactured in mass quauntities by someone who has never even met you.

oh...stick with the 31s for now. build your armor and then lift it.

remember, "go prepared" and "built not bought"

spend your money on traction man. im a newbie "round" these parts but ive been on the trail a time or two and a winch or a good set up rubber would be a good investment the way that i see it.

Well i definately want rock rails and the front hoop w/ winch mount even if i dont have a winch yet. Who can i contact around Raleigh about gettin one made up, possibly painted, and installed? What kinda price for this?

I won't disagree w/ BigRedB2 because I do try to support the local/small guy but make sure you set specifics on what they build for you and how much it's going to cost before they start no matter who your dealing with. Lots of folks on her do a great job but you just need to cya when it comes to custom work. Hours and materials can add up quick even on small things. Sometimes I find it is cost/time effective to buy somethings rather than make it myself.
My $.02

X2! Awesome advice for a young and upcoming wheeler. Join a local club and go out with them on a trail ride while stock. They will make sure you don't hurt your rig or get hurt. That way you can see for yourself what is needed first. I am sure that most of them will have winches so, lower the priority on that upgrade.
Never wheel alone.
