Ok here is the deal...

Dad bought his s10 new in 1996, in 1997 a Lein was placed in the title. Feb 1998 the Lein was removed. The original title is missin in action and has been missing for a long time now, my step mother has a history of "putting things away" only to never be seen again. Sooooo... While doing title work on the tacoma yesterday I figured I'll take the mvr4 form for the s10 and get that squared away. Wrong! Ok since the original title has been lost and that title had a Lein on it at some point (even though Lein as been lifted) the financial company has to physically sign off on the form stating no current/open (what ever proper term is) Lein is on the title or send me a release paper stating the Lein has been lifted. Well said financial company no longer exists. The paper the lady at dmv gave me has the name and address of the company and Google brings up some hits on them but none of the phone numbers I found work. So here I sit looking at a 90% complete solid axle swapped truck with a lot of time, effort, and money spent on it (wasted?) I have had the truck a while but considering I know the owner pretty well and it wasn't ready to go anywhere I haven't been much after getting the title for it....

So my question is now what??? How can I get the needed information from a nonexistent company? Iam sure they have been bought out but I didn't see anything on Google about that.

NO MENTION OF VIN SWAPING HERE PLZ!

I left out a big detail here....for the past two years of building this truck I hear from my wife "you need to get that title" "what if there is a Lein on it?" "What if what if what it". Lol I can't take a large I told you so like this so early in the year, I'll never hear the end of it.

I bought my wifes YJ and spent over a year workin on it before I titled it and was worried about this the whole time.In my county they will not let you get a title w/o taggin-insurin it first.

i missed that thread, I hope to hear something Monday on the Lein release on my truck. Iam just lucky it belonged to my dad and not some random person. I would be up the creek then.

It is still possible. I ran into this on the excurison. When the company that had a lien on it, i had to send 3 certified letters to get returned without opening them to last know adress. Then fill out another form and wait for the dmv to sign off...

I went through all this trying to "do the right thing" after I completely rebuild a 1980 mustang coupe with all later model parts. I had a certificate of title transfer and not an actual title (to dumb to research it before I built the car) the lein holder wouldnt accept my bond and after getting an attorney I still lost my car. Sometimes doing the right thing hurts............alot
