Lot's of folks wanted to know why Team Turtle missed the 2nd ECORS race
Well I was out of the country,my dad, uncle and their two friends dragged me to South Africa for 3 weeks, wow what an adventure.I couldn't or actually didn't have time to show everyone the pics so here they are for everyone to enjoy.
Enjoy the pics
Part 1 of my great S.A. adventure in April of 2010
Heres a few pictures from my S.A. Safari adventure I did in April.
I will post more pics I think hahaha,I took over 1700 so it's a slow dialup process.
On to the pics.
We flew into Johannessburg and stay'd over night 28 hrs on planes.........
next morning we flew to Livingston,Zambia
"Hi Planet"
and our local guide chi-chi picked us up and we we're shuttled to the Hotel, the Zambezi Sun
where we were greeted by our own private warrior clan
They were great guys.
I was almost molested by "Jeffrey" in the hotels driveway
Typical sign at almost all hotels
It was lucas's job to keep them away, very cool guy
The hotel had Zebra's ,giraffes and baboons on the property...........as well as croc's.
The heli pad was a favorite grazing spot for the zebras
They also had a kick butt bar area complete with a bar
And a stage that was adorn with ancient........turtles!!!!
We walked down to see Victoria Falls...........all I can say is wow...makes Niagra look small.
On the way down we found a statue of Livingston,he explored most of this part of africa, very cool history
we walked over the bridge to Zimbabwe and took pics, they were bunge jumping off the bridge
The border area......from here we walked!!
some pics from the bridge
Sorry no pics of the border guards with polished Ak47's (may of been 74's,they were well worn hahaha)
time to head back
We spent a few days in Zambia, the Zambezi Sun was an awesome hotel for me.
Flew back to J-burg (see falls pic is about 1/3 of them)
(falls from air)
We soon left out for the inner countryside in a tour bus this time ( I thought the bus was cool at first,it gets old after a while.best part tho'
was there were only 20 of us on the tour so we had plenty of room)
We ended up spending a few days in Kruger park.
(more pics put here)
We were on the hunt for the BIG 5:
Lion,Elephant,Cape buffalo,Rhino and the Leopard............
Well we saw 1000's of Impala's,elephants,Kudo(antelope 'bout the size of a horse) waterbucks bushbucks and several white rhino's......
Impala
Kudo
Zebra
Impala's and friends
And one of the prettiest and most graceful animals....Giraffes
lot's of big huge elephants
no kitty cats yet
We continued on thru the country stopping here and there to shop at markets etc.........You buy wine, liquor etc at bottle stores......we did stop at a few of those.
You ever really wonder how big a Rhino is?
Ugh.......really big here is a smaller one about 8ft from the open truck just grazing, this one was about the size of an Amigo on 32's
The bigger horn was atleast 10" long
we did lot's of driving thru the bush and on paved "forest type roads" here is a wilderbeast.
And lot's of worthogs running around, the little ones are almost cute....
We stopped at an Elephant sactuary and My dad and i rode an elephant........he had a chair thing like a king and I went bareback......I'm getting to old to do the split's.
Here are the "rides"
Mines the one in the middle......the skin is actually about 1/2" thick hard 10 frit sand paper...........it was all good
Afterwards we fed them and mingled round them, the backside of their ears are like a radiator, when they fan their ears it cools them down because all the blood vessels are at the surface..........and it's smoother than a new born babies head.
It's been about a week and a half and still no cats!!!!......the frustration was getting to everyone.
Our main tour guide kept saying"have patience, you'll see the big cats"
Yeah right......
Well did get to see Hyenas and the rare African wild dog!! very similar but hyenas are scavengers and wild dogs hunt in packs,we were out looking for cats when a truck stopped us and said there a pack of dogs attacking a zebra!!
off we went.........resting after a meal
We stopped at several wineries on our journey on of them was Groot Canstatine it is the oldest winery in S.A. it about 400 years old,we went in for a tour and a tasting
heres there cellar
Our local wineries wine, which is my favorite....Chambourcin on the table at the Groot Constantine tasting table...yeh bo
end of part one:
