(not for 4x4, but idea is universal).
On my Merc Tracer (Ford Escort), there is a pressure "bottle" that is used in the cruise control system, for engaging/disengaging the cruise control. On some other vehicles (like XJs), similar bottle used used for cruise and for flipping vent to top vs bottom and some other similar things.

Mine has a hole and needs replacement. *what is the usual name for this thing*. Hard to explain to Car-Part.com, hahaha.

vacuum canister - it doesn't engage anything, it just stores vacuum so things work when the engine isn't making much.

negative atmosphere retention chamber :huggy:

Either a vacuum canister, or a vacuum accumulator

I figured it was for pressure, but vacuum makes just as much sense. And yes, I know it dosn't switch things itself, I just meant its necessary for teh switching to occur. i.e., my CC dosn't work b/c of the hole.
