Are there any shops in NC that will narrow a set of GM 1 tone axles? Im working on my 1985 CJ build and I have a set of 1 tons I am going to put under it but I do not want to go full width. Looking for a shop that can a) do it and )b give me a price quote on the cost. Thanks in advance.

Narrowing the axle housing, simple. Getting narrowed shafts might not be

What width are you looking for? Also, keeping it leaf sprung or linking it?
That'll make a difference as to how long each side is in relation to spring pad location.

We would be happy to help with getting your axles narrowed, or provide parts if you find someone else to do the labor. Post some specs on what your looking for and what kind of setup your running and I can work up some rough numbers to send over.

I appreciate all the feedback already. My CJ had an AMC20 out back and Dana 30 up front. I have a Dana 60 and 14 bolt sitting in my garage from an old rig. Wanting to go down from the 67 1/2 that they are now to 62 front and 60 rear. I plan on keeping it leaf sprung, I am not going to go crazy with this build, I want to run 37's with a small block chevy and not have to worry when I have the front and rear locked in. Im in the beginning stages of this build so I am working with what I have around and trying to plan a budget to get in the ballpark. Thanks again for the help gents.

What backspacing are you planning to run on your wheels after narrowing the axles? If your narrowing 7 inches then run a wheel with 3" backspacing you could accomplish the same thing by running a wheel with 6" backspacing. It would be about the same and alot cheaper than buying custom axle shafts.

I like the shave and portals idea, right after I hit the lottery!! Haha. The more i think about im just going to leave them alone and keep them the way they are. It will give me more options when I go to rebuild it again cause that will inevitably happen. Thanks again for all the input Gents.
