Could someone ballpark me a cost for this...

1992 Mazda B2600i
Received in an even swap of 1992 GMC Suburban K2500

Catawba County is the county in which the Mazda will be registered...

How much will I be paying DMV?
All Notary work is done so...

Title
Tax
Tag Transfer from the Suburban

From looking at the site...
$40 for title...
$15 for tag tansfer...
and I guess 3% of vehicle value?

Am I figuring it right?
and
What do they use for vehicle value?

Just registered my XJ a few weeks ago.

I believe it was 180, including..

Registration of new vehicle to me
Blue Ridge Parkway Plate
the HUT on the purchase

Damn...
All I need is a Title, Transferring the tag, and Tax...

Can't be that high...can it?

Tax value on a 17 year old truck can't be much...

The tax value has nothing to do with the age of the truck, it has everything to do with how much you purchased it for. I believe its...3% of the purchase price?

The Tag I got was an extra 30, but 20 if it goes to the parkway so I felt it was a good compromise.

40 for certificate of title
15 for transfer of plate
3% of your purchase price to HUT.

Id say...in the neighborhood of 150 or so? I might be wrong however.

That's my problem...I paid nothing for the truck...
Actually this is my 3rd even swap on this 1 tag...
Original swap was a 94 Golf for a $2500 F150...then for a 1992 Suburban...and now a 1992 Mazda...

so...It would be nice if I owe no taxes...but it will have to be based on something other than a purchase price...

Guess I'll call tomorrow and see.

Here's one for you...
When I swapped, the bank the guy uses (in Fort Mill, SC)filled out all of the paperwork that I needed to get everything swapped over up here, including a bill of sale.
Bill of sale has 3 blanks...
Sale Price of Vehicle
Less trade in
Taxable total

So...if I put that the Sale Price was $2500, the trade in was $2500, I should put that the Taxable total is $0...correct? (I'm using $2500 as an example)

Since it is an even swap, there technically should be no "taxable total"
Right?

The tax...tag and title fees were 375 on my 01 dodge

The NC DMV doesnt care about purchase price, its about what their book value shows. The NC DMV never looks at the bill of sale.

Ive never had a notarized bill of sale. just the notarized title. as said, DMV doesnt care about sale price, they go by their "book value".

I'd say your looking at $100-150... I dont think I've ever gotten out of there for under $100

Ding Ding!
The imfamous $30XJ cost me $120 for a F-ing title and tags.

In NC, a bill of sale means absolutely nothing. You aren't required in any way to have one. Some states are different. Like was said, they look up the tax value in the computer, and you pay taxes on that. I once bought a fullsize bronco for $300, but got taxed as if it were worth over $1200, IIRC. Not much you can do about that part.

I just got my 91 Explorer on the road a week or 2 ago and it was right around $103.

Title was $40
Tag was $28
Tax was $35

On a used vehicle they take 3% of what the say it is worth.

On new vehicles from dealerships it is 3% of what you pay for it.

So you will end up probably under $100 with tag swap.

I would guess:

1. Title $40
2. Tag transfer $15
3. 3% vehicle value (I'm going to guess tax value of $800) = $24

GRAND TOTAL: $79.... I'd take a Benjamin w/ me to be safe though...

I just got tags on my Samurai... $40(title) $28(tag) $13.50 (3%, valued at $450) = $81.50

In NC if the vehicle was purchased from a dealer then the DMV taxes you based on the bill of sale price. Otherwise they go by the book value. If you call them they will tell you exactly how much it's going to cost. If you tell them you received the car as a gift they don't charge anything. Just tell them your grandma gave you the car lol.

They only do that if the dealer does the paperwork.

I bought my Trailblazer off a friend's lot and took care of the paperwork. Paid $17k for it, but the damn DMV tagged me for a $26k value on it.

I hate the damn DMV.

I just went by their website, which says its 3% of the purchase price.

That would explain why my tax wasnt what I thought It'd be though...

OK...Here is what MINE was...
and I guess it was becasue it was froman individual and an even swap:
$40 Title
$28 Tag - I finally get to move 1 of my 3 tags away from March...
$32.40 Tax - (Tax is 3% of Wholesale of Vehicle)

I'll be on the road tomorrow!
