NC Outer Banks Recommendation

Our family (Wife, 2 kids) is planning to go to the Outer Banks for a long weekend late this month. The problem is I haven't been down to that area in about 10-15 years and really don't know where is a good place to stay. I know, we should have made reservations already but it just hasn't happened. We want to be as central as reasonably possible to attractions like Kitty Hawk, Jockey's Ridge, etc. but are open to suggestions. Anybody know any specific mom and pop type motels or small houses that may be available for rent, preferably on the beach or very close? We're not set on any specific location.

Hate to tell ya but your going to be hard pressed to find a house this late. Some suggestions of places my family has used are reissued reality, brindley beach realty, and there is one more that I can't think of on top of many others on the island. Also most house rentals are on a weekly basis sun-sun or sat-sat. I would suggest going to www.obx.com and see what you can find on there. Also be warned like everything else prices have skyrocketed especially on rentals out there. Good luck and have fun out there. Pm me if you need anymore info.
 
yeah good luck. there is a motel down where we stay in frisco, close to the beach. but that's an hour south of nags head.
 
We stayed in the ramada last year right in KDH..on the beach nice enough (very clean but its a bit dated) has a bar and restaraunt in the hotel....Jockey's ridge is maybe 10 inutes away.

I know as of last week you could still book a full wek there next week.

We ended up doing something different but I wouldnt hsitate to go back.

BTW we pricelined it last year at 89.99/night when they wantd 179 on line....
 
I stayed at the Tarheel Inn once last summer. IIRC, it was right across the street from the Ramada. I had been tent camping at Oregon Inlet, some seriously nasty storms rolled in and started flooding the park, so I packed up, headed in to town, they had rooms available at sub-$80 rates (For the TGW event, the GF pricelined it for sub-$50, but we didn't stay there) for 2 queen beds a full bathroom and a kitchenette, so I took one. It looks like something right out of the 70's...has a weird smell, but it was cheap and suited me just fine. It's across the street from a beach path.
