This post is carried over from the original post started on Gen Chat. http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76836

There were 48 responses to the poll on the other thread. If everyone shows up this is going to be a fantastic event and a great way to reach out to the community and raise awareness for the "Tread Lightly" motto/philosophy.

This will be a NC4x4.com community sponsored statewide event. We will be removing trash and debris from the OHV trails at Uwharrie and Brown Mountain OHV areas. The idea is to go ahead and get the trails cleaned up so there is less work for the Forest Service to do over the winter. All man hours will be logged and reported to the FS. We hope that this will go a long way towards shining a good light on the 4x4 community and show the FS that we do care about the trails and do not ever want to lose our places to wheel.

We will be focusing on two OHV areas, Brown Mountain and Uwharrie. If anyone knows of other trails please feel free to speak up and form a team. Everyone should bring plenty of trash bags and any tools you think you may need. You cannot bring chainsaws unless you are a certified sawyer with the FS. We can pick up some trail markers, work log sheets and similar supplies from the forest service in case we find some downed signs that can be easily repaired. (Yes, there are a few.)

Please refer to the specific team post below for information on meeting place, tools, what's needed, etc.

We have been cleared by the US Forest Service to clean on Saturday. FS will be providing some trash bags, tools and free trail passes to those who need them. Please meet at the outpost at 9:00am. We would like to be on the trails by 10:00am. I will be meeting Janet at Arrowhead campground 22 to pick up supplies and will distribute these at the outpost. From the outpost we will split into groups of 5 depending on the number of participants. Each group will be assigned a trail and/or area. Hopefully we will have at least one person in each group with CBs or radios so that we can communicate. I imagine we can be done by 3:00pm at which point we will meet in the double parking lot for pictures. Hopefully we will be done much sooner than that so we can enjoy the rest of the day wheeling together. Also, bring a lunch, unless you plan on eating at the outpost. Your hot dog guy will not be @ URE this weekend. I recommend bringing a change of clothes and boots/shoes. The trails were very muddy last weekend and I imagine they will still be quite wet.

Signs have been printed on plain premium paper. (29 lb) Scotch tape will be provided.

I will deffinately be at the outpost @ 9:00am. Myself, fiance & 6 yr old daughter. I will bring trash bags & rubber gloves.

If there are specific tools we need to bring list them so folks that haven't done this before have a better idea of what is needed.

Are the worker bee's going to be broken up into teams?
Specified target areas; trail campsites, certain trails ect.

I think it all depends on the turn out but I think if we break into groups of 5 rigs that would be ideal. The more capable rigs can take the difficult areas. I'll post the target areas.

Brown Mountain team, please chime in with details on your area. I'm not familiar with the trails at all. I've never been there.

Brown Mountain will be a small but needed clean up. Trail #1 and Trail #8 are only 4wd trails at Brown Mountain.

I just got off the phone with the Ranger station that handles Brown Mountain, The lady to that handles that is not in today and will contact me tomorrow. But talking to the Ranger that answered the phone about what were doing, He just couldn't believe what I was asking "you want to volunteer to clean up the trails". I said yes were just trying to help where we can. He said she would really want to speak to me. So I left my info.

Captain: burrellsjeep (Trail Jammers)
Time: Sunday 13th 9:00am
Starting point: Main Parking Lot

Target Areas:
---------------
Main Parking Lot
Trail #1 and Trail #8

Tools:
---------------
Trash bags
Gloves
Long reach pickup device so you don't have to bend over as much
Hammer & Nails
Hedge Trimmer
Possibly a small garden cart that can be pulled behind a rig. Just a thought, not necessary if you have room in your rig.

To do:
----------------
Design/Print fliers that can be easily attached to vehicles.
Contacted Ranger Station and Waiting for call back.

Be sure to pack a lunch and plenty to drink. The hot dog guy won't be @ URE this weekend so we'll have to fend for ourselves. The outpost is always an option, but I plan to pack my own.

Hey Chris, I'm a definite on that Sat. Talked to jonnyB and some others that plan on it as well. C ya that morning, thanks for getting this underway. It should shine light on the cause.

Going to try and make it to the Uwharrie Clean up.

Unless I can get a miracle in the next couple of days, I'll probably be looking for a passenger seat.

Flyers for Rigs

Here is what I came up with, Can someone with some skills do something better or any other ideas.

I think it should have the web address so there is no mistake. "www.nc4x4.com"

Most all of the BDB will be in the Cat Square parade that day. I hate that we will miss an opportunity to help, although I am not sure some of the buggies would make it all the way through Brown...

Its a great idea. Good job, guys.

hate me and a few others cant make it, unfortunately the bosses will not let us off. in my case the landfill never stops.....

****Brown Moutain Update****

Well I spoke to Debbie at the ranger station. She stated we are not allowed to just pick up trash on National Forest Land. In order to be allowed to Volunteer for the Forest Service there is a little bit of paperwork to fill out. I just thought this was funny, I can't pick up trash with out a contract.

Debbie was very nice and grateful for the offer. But in order for us to do this she is faxing me a contract on Monday to look over and fill out, sign and get back to her. They will look it over and hopefully it will be approved by Friday.

So this is where I am at with the Forest Service.

FYI - Debbie was the nice one, Babara on the other hand, lets just say her people skills need sharping. You would have thought I asked her if I could dump radioactive waste there.
