Just sitting here wondering what it would take to do like pirate does..only it would be nc4x4 tv.

In theory, and logistically, I guess...what would it require?

I know its not cheap or easy,I just wanted to chit-chat about it:popcorn:

Everyone..please chime in.

And yes...I realize it will probably never happen, but whatcha think about it?

Don't know anything about pirate tv, don't use the site, but I think a web cast or something could be done, basically would need a tent, a video camera, and a table, and ofcourse the ability to travel.

Go to all major ECORS races and other NC based 4x4 events... Post the videos later on.

Couple interviews with the local racers etc...

Don't think it would be too terribly expensive, if it caught on, get sponsors, start throughing in shameless advertisements, list goes on.

Start small :D

Dylan, you should have said something at the Flats race. I had cameras, tapes, could have had Cyd interview you. ;)

That's really about all it takes. It's a little more involved if you want to stream it live, but prerecording and editing after the fact is easy.

PBB's setup is impressive. They've got the satellite uplink on the van, several cameras, bunch of computers inside to handle the feed... whole lot of money wrapped up in it. Lots and lots of JD, too.

To do a satellite uplink show... doubtful... to run a basic video camera, edit it, etc... and host it, yeah wouldn't be difficult.

NC4x4 TV could film some of the more popular builds in action, trial runs, lots of interviews, major breaks and repairs, eventually a local shop/company or vendor may decide to sponsor in exchange for some advertisement, "NC4x4 TV has been brought to you by the following Sponsors, if you like the show, thank them with your business" Shirts end up covered with sponsor logos, tent/table are the same way, run raffles, do give aways, etc...

Its all very doable just needs a little organization and someone with the time/interest/knowledge to get it off the ground.

I'm assuming the expensive part is the satellite uplink?

These days it's trivial to tether a laptop (or even a camera directly) to a cell phone and uplink via the 3g connection. i'd think the hard part would just be having a strong enough signal.for that level of speed. I had cell cervice at DPG but not 3g level - but w/ a booster I'd think it'd be possible.

I can donate webspace if there is a bandwidth concern.

Even at ideal 3G speeds, it's not fast enough to stream video. Down is... okay. Up is too slow.

I think PBB's dish runs about $18-20k just for the equipment. That doesn't include traffic charges (pretty sure it's not flat rate, but by the KB).

Bandwidth isn't an issue once it's on the web. We've got plenty of that here, and YouTube is free...

I like the idea of 'episodes' better than live streaming... because it gets super expensive and can still be kinda jerky and look, well, bad even if it is "good." That's my $.02... but I think I can work the camera now.

Yeah, go live and who knows the amount of profanity and other crazy things they might catch on camera... Im sure alot of the things they catch wouldn't do the sport any good.

Webisodes would be easy enough as a first step.
If you want to get into the live feed, I have a very good contact at a company based in Charlotte that this is all they do and they rent the equipment out for event type broadcasts. They have 10-15 satellite vans, they aint cheap, last I checked around $1k/day

Well... that actually dosn't seem too bad to me.... seeing as how ECORS events are only 1 day... that's 3 years use at the price Shawn just quoted for PBBs "bought" setup.

I mean, yous are swimming in the dough, right???:lol:

webisodes would be pretty cool. the live stream from pirate is irritating as it is choppy as crap.

Yeah, that's what I meant by 'jerky' and 'bad'... I hadn't even considered the 'content' as an issue, since I know nobody wants his momma to see him cuss on teevee.

Yep, that dish is $$$. I originally heard rumors of it being about $40K, but Shawn's estimate is prob. more accurate.

My guess would be that NC4x4 would have to sell a lot more subscriptions to pay for something capable of what PBB has...

and Lance's buggy. Supposedly it has some super top secret type of axle shafts that nobody has ever made before. Made from some super tough and $$$ metal only NASA and Pirate can afford :shaking:
