El-cheapo-china made is fine, not much torque on it.

I don't like using the chisel method on the spindle nuts.

Even better is if it's near Durham / Chapel Hill.

The Napa on hwy68 has big sockets. Maybe yours does too.

Northern sells them. I personally would make my own for something like this. Mainly because I'm cheap and it would take forever to find one around here.

If it's not much torque make your own --Pipe, some 1/4" key stock a plate & a junk socket welded on top. On the original modle 25 front axle in my jeep that would not work no room I used a piece of muffler pipe & beat the spindle nut in then beat the pipe down on the flats & this worked pretty well

Ive got some big ones over at Northern Before.

Are yours 6 sided or 8 ?

6-- at least on the first axle. I haven't finished tearing that completely down yet, but I'll pop the flanges off the other one and make sure that's 6, too..

Lauren.. I don't *need* it just yet, but when it comes time to re-assemble it in a few weeks, I want to do it properly. No rush, but do let me know if you guys have one.

I'll be back your way in a few weeks. If you wanted I can run you one buy if I have it. I know for a fact I have a crescent wrench that size and I've got sockets and 1/2" drive stuff over 2" but not sure if they go all the way to 3

Damn, I appreciate that, I'm just trying to find something for my toolbox that size but not at snap-on prices..

I think tractor suply is my best bet, that's where I bought the 2 1/8" toyota spindle nut socket for under $10.

They have them at delks in ashboro, $20. If you come to the Feb 17 ride you'll go right past it on the way there, then you have an excuse to do both.

what axle?, my spindle nuts on both front and rear dana 60's were 2 9/16" I have both the socket and the socket bar used for this application

If there is any type of Ag, or tractor supply nearby they will usually have sockets up to 5". You may only be able to find it in 3/4" or 1" drive sockets though.

Chris

yeah i would say northern... however if its rockwell i just built mine. made it square and it touches on 4 sides and it worked well

Mine are all 6-sided.. guess I got lucky.. :)

TSC here I come..

Chase, thanks for the offer. My Toyota spindle nuts were 2 1/8", got that socket from TSC too (for others' reference). the socket and 1/2" - 3/4" adapter were just over $10 total.

The socket when flipped around is also an EXCELLENT inner axle seal installer for a Toyota axle shaft.. ;)

they are 54mm, which is close @ 2.126, but good luck finding a 54mm socket, without spending more than your $10

exactly, and it's a close enough fit. not like there's 500lb-ft on 'em anyway.

sears carries large stuff also. that's where i got my three 2"+ from.
