So my trusty 3-ton Craftsman pro floor jack finally bit the dust after 10+ years of service. Prices have really gone up though, it's selling for $220 now, I bought it for $120 with a pair of jack stands..

So I need to replace it, but I'm not spending that much money.

An aluminum jack would be really nice, but it's got to lift to 18" or more, and be low-profile, like <4" minimum to fit under my DD.

There's some on Northern and Harbor Freight's websites, but shipping is a KILLER on these.. Who has seen something that fits the bill AT A STORE? no websites, unless free shipping is part of the deal.. :D

Of the ones I seen and used, there's one badged with Michelin labels that seems to work pretty damn good. Wasn't too expensive, but may have been 2-ton. reliable, lift speed, price... all pretty good. don't recall where it came from though. But it was local stores, maybe Napa.

Those were sold at Sams Club....Something like $70...Cheap. There was a thread, I think on Pirate, That those don't last long. I have seen them in person and they do look like there quality built though. This is just what I read, Not bashing, KC

Go to pbb and find the 30% off hf coupon. Go to your local hf. Buy the largest jack you can afford. Their 3 ton is pretty decent.

X2, I've been using my HF floor jack for 4 years now and have not had any issues with it. I think I purchased it for less than $100 and it included shipping

They still stock them from time to time but you have to watch for them. I bought mine from there a few years back for $60.

I got one about two years ago and returned it after a couple of months because it was leaking. I'm still using the replacement but the trouble I'm having is not going up but coming down. I have to turn the handle about three or four complete turns before it starts to come down. Not bad for the money and it goes full height in two pumps when not loaded.

Bought the blue "Michelin" jack at Sam's, on the 3rd-4th use (several months after purchase), it wouldn't lift fatboy's TJ :(

Return to Sam's, only to find that the blue "Michelin" jack had been replaced by an exact duplicate red "Rausch Racing" jack... but the price had doubled!

Screw that! Got a refund... went to sLowes and bought a Kobalt floor jack (looks almost identical to the 2 above) for less than the Rausch jack... with another set of cheesy stands.

That's been almost 2 years ago and it's going strong!

Check out sam's club. i got one there i think it is a michelin brand but it lifts up to 22" and is pretty slim, i'm dont remember how much it was but it was a good price

my buddy has one of the michelin ones. we've been using it for the past year or so. no problems lifting my jeep, roomate's toyota, buddy's fullsize chevy, etc. no leaks. i'd probably buy one.

also have one of the aluminum ones from sam's. hunk of crap i'd say. doesn't lift anything anymore

also have a regular craftsman. lifts anything, just slower than the michelin one. takes a whole lot more pumps and when letting it down it goes down really really fast.

I like the 2-1/4model

it will go on sale every 6 weeks for 40 (ok 39.99)then you can use a 29% coupon to bring it down

We've got one of these in the shop http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...&cName=Tools+&+Equipment&sName=Lift+Equipment and it works great and i've had one of these at the house for years and is a great deal if it meets your criteria http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...&cName=Tools+&+Equipment&sName=Lift+Equipment
I have the first one, it works great, but the aluminum doesn't really like the abuse. Been looking at replacing the saddle, just haven't done it. I've had it about 3-4 years, pretty much everything I have sits on jack stands, so it gets some use.

I think everyone has a knock of (HF, Northern), but I've never had a problem bringing a tool back to Sears.

sounds like a lot of hit and miss from the jacks at Sam's...

Alot of hit & miss everywhere it seems. Gonna take my chances with Sam's. Getting to HF is alot more difficult.
