Need Electrical Help!

I bought a 85 CUCV M1008 (K30 1 1/4 ton) which is ran 24V with two 12V batteries ran in series and two alternators. Put new batteries in it because the old ones went dead, then a few days later, the batteries went dead again so I got the alternators tested. Went to Autozone, bought a new alternator (the other one was good), and before I could get out there the employee tried to put the alternator on (didn't ask him to, wasn't susposed to). He left the batteries hooked up and grounded a bolt out on my fan, which burned up a wire from the alternator to the firewall, and who knows what else. So we tried for a few days with Autozones help, to get it running again, and couldnt. So it is now at a shop getting rewired. They said they got it running, drove it for a few days, and it died again. Took apart the starter, thnking it was bad, but it is fine. Got it running again, volts and everything looked good, on the way home the batteries kept dieing so I dropped it back off at the shop, guessing the alternators arent working again, even though they both tested good. Any ideas?
