 HELP! I blew my 4.3 V6 Chevy in my YJ and am finally getting around to rebuilding it. I bought this engine from a junkyard a couple years ago and put it in. From what the machine shop has told me and the trouble I have had finding parts, this is a b@stardized engine. The junkyard said it came out of a 1993 S-10 Blazer. I guess they took it out of a blazer, but I think the previous owner got the block out of something else and probably put heads and intake from the Blazer it was in on this block or something. Anyway, I got a Melling high volume oil pump, which it turns out is just a little taller than the pump that was in the engine because the pickup that was on the original oil pump is now too tall and hits the oil pan. I have contacted Melling to get a part number for the correct pickup and the one they tell me for a 2WD blazer is too short and the one for a 4WD Blazer is too long. Autozone let me look at all the pickups they had but I didn't find anything. No catalogs I find have the heights of the pickups, which I would say is a critical characteristic and they should be smart enough to list it.

Basically, to use the high volume pump I have now, I need a pickup approximately 3" tall. We tried bending one that was too long, but by the time we torched and bent it to get it just right, we had put a hole in the tube. Or I may could go with a stock pump. Or maybe a different pump and pickup.

I have taken the numbers off the oilpan and block to see if one of you can help me figure out this mess. By the way, this oilpan measure about 9.5" from the gasket to the bottom of the deep end.

#s on oil pan: 1992T357, 10054779
#s on block: GM 4.3L6, M112, 10224534, T0104AJT

4.3's came in all kinds of stuff, cars, vans, trucks. Try the parts dept at a chevy dealer, see if they can run the numbers for you.

I did that this morning and the lady was not much help. She looked up the number off the oil pan and told me it was from an S-10, Astro, or S-10 Blazer. I already knew all that. She said I would have to call GM to get info on the numbers that are on the block.

Anybody know of a good website that lists block numbers? The only one I have found so far requires you to get a membership.

I just got off the phone with technical support at Melling. What an @sshole, and he was no help at all!!

Yo,

There should be some cast-in numbers on the block. That should tell you what it came from. There may also be some stamped numbers in a machined pad near the front. I would Google any numbers found, stamped on or cast - in, and you will likely learn from the searches what you have. Your experiences so far in trying to get good help is classic. Ain't like it used to be.....
