scored a nice, old school, aluminum camper top for my MJ today. I want to paint it black or cheap spray can bed liner. The roof of it is already white and the sides look like clear coated aluminum. What will I need to do to get spray paint or bedliner to stick to it? Its also really tempting to get someone to bend me up a roof basket for it out of some really light weight tubing or possibly EMT conduit??

I had a roof rack made from emt on my Grand Cherokee...It's looked pretty good

Jeff, what did you do to prep it for paint? I know its got some kinda galvanized stuff on it...

I have heard you can wash galvanized metal with white vinegar to get paint to stick.

anyone got some ideas on how to prep this topper?

I have a peepaw camper shell as well....You can bring your over one day and we can knock them both out in the same day

The rack was on the heep when I got it. I have no idea how to prep it. I assumes that a good layer of primer and then paint would do the job just fine

haha..yup thats the one, ole papaw unit. I like it though. But, yeah we could do that...it would be nice to find a warm shop to paint in so it could cure a little.

seymour mro paints is the best spray paint you can buy. sold locally at bolt and tool supply. i usually keep a couple colors also. they have a flat black and a gloss black. very good paint. somewhere around $7 a can but goes futher than any other brand.
