Sorry for the caps but need the attention. I have a guy in my shop who just flew to OH this past weekend to buy a very clean 69 camaro SS clone. It was stolen out of the back of the carriers truck. The truck was parked at the red roof inn off Hwy 95 exit 49 in Fayetteville. I am asking everyone to keep an eye out for it. It is a very clean glossy paint red w/black rally stripes. It has a set of Boyd Cottington wheels on it. I wish I had a picture of it to post but I do not have one right now. He was notified of this around 7 am so it should not be far. If any sees anything please call me @ 1-910-424-8249 (home) or Cell 1-910-818-3929 (cell). The real crappy part is he bought (20K) it Sat after driving it for like 20-30 minutes and now it is gone. Again if anyone has any info or think they have seen it please call.

open carrier or enclosed?

If it was enclosed, sounds like an inside job to me...

Fawkin sucks, that sounds like a SWEET ride.

It was an enclosed trailer. I think it could be a little strange myself. I wonder if it was ever on the truck from OH? Who knows though. The guy he bought the car from gave the info of the carrier he deals with all the time. He restores cars.

You don't say.. hmmmm... *sniff sniff* I smell a rat.

Come on. Seems like every night I've ever stayed at a motel on the side of an interstate, there's been some cool shit parked on a trailer out back. Guys with fabric-sided trailers can't hardly keep them up, what with people coming through every night and slicing the tarp to see what's inside.

Your buddy's car is probably 10hrs away by now. Sucks, but I'd hope the carrier's contract made them responsible for the vehicle.

Carrier is responsible

not necessarily so.
Depends on the FOB point.
If he shipped it to you FOB his dock, you took ownership the second it left his dock.

Sounds strange but we ship multi-hundred thousand dollar generators all the time FOB shipping doc. Saves the contractor sometimes as much as a grand on shipping (depending on weight, value, distance etc.)...But the one time I heard about a truck turning over in WV the contractor owned agenerator that was destroyed...

Not really FOB which stands for Frieght on Board. Just determines who has has title to the item being shipped. It has no relevance on how is liable for damage to the item while being shipped. It just determines who gets paid. Also in the accounting world it determines who can put the item into their inventory etc.

So it's not really relevant to the shipper being liable. This said I'm not saying the shipper is liable or not. I would have to see the shipping contract to determine that. I just know FOB has nothing to do with Liability on the part of the shipper. If it was shipped with some form of insurance by the shipper then they are liable. If they signed a liability waiver of some sorts then they are not.

Sad story, if he could provide us with the VIN that would be a total help. Sadly enough though if it isn't recovered within the first several days its more than likely out of the country. Anyone heard about the Chocolate Thunder Roadster RadRods build for EATON for their 2006 show season? It was worth in upwords of 250K it was stolen early in '06 and not seen again, most believe it ended up out of the country. Seriously though, its too late to register for RM Auction in FL, but not too late for someone to register the car for B.J. in West Palm and I'll be there too.
