Need New Trans??

All of my forward gears work. But when I put in Reverse it takes a while....like 5-10 secs before going in Reverse. Then it kind of goes in and out of Reverse just a little. So am I looking at a whole trans or would a re-build work. Is cheaper to re-build or buy a used one?
 
What kind of vehicle/tranny?
 
Its either a th350 or a th400...
If you have thee tools/knowledge to remove and replace yourself you should be able to get a bench job for aroun $350, including new frictions,pump and torque convrter, maybe less depending on who you know.
 
Sound like you have a bad Valve body. you could just replace it. Does it slip whe it finaly engages? if not then most likey the valves are sticky of worn out.
 
Whatever you do, fix it soon. Automatics only get worse. If you get it done now it will be much cheaper than to wait until its completely gone.
 
Well........wouldn't even go into reverse tonight. So i guess a re-build is on the way. Would I be better off with a re-build or buying a used one? Sure wish I knew how to do this stuff myself!! Any suggestions?
