my solenoid pack is a pile of rust. What's best way to replace this? Few places I called want $300 just for the box. Might as well get a new winch in that case. Thoughts?

thanks,
Shannon

Northern Tool has the solenoids for $25 a piece. Is this the two-solenoid or four-solenoid pack? I'm working on one tonight. I've got wiring diagrams and whatnot, too.

How about a Ford starter solenoid?

Nope, won't work, at least for long. not designed for continuous duty

I would try cleaning them up. The solenoids are copper inside(the relay part) and they don't rust. If it's just the outside clean them up and see if they won't work.

It is my understanding (for what that is worth) that there is a Ford solenoid pack that is rated for continuous duty.
Not sure which one it is.

How about a Ford starter solenoid?

It depends on which model. The integrated model uses four of the Ford-style solenoids. The non-integrated uses two of the five lug solenoids. If it's the Ford style, I'd be tempted to use Ford solenoids. I've seen them used on a Warn 12k with some hard pulls and no failures yet. And at $12 a piece, I'd throw a couple extras in the trail box for spares. If it's the non-integrated, I don't know of a cheap source except for Northern.

Now for another question...does anybody know where I can get a cheap motor for a Ramsey Pro9000? Mine's a pile of rust! :poop:

Find a local shop that rebuilds alternators, starters etc. They will know what solenoids you need, and be able to get it for you. They are normally ~$20.

I believe it's for the diesel Glow Plug application... not the starter.
That sound's about right. The military Chevy pickups (w/6.2 diesel) use one too, not sure on the amp rating, but iirc it's 400A 12V cont duty.
