Got a 22re for my slow going buggy project, I started going through the harness today. My question is what all do I need for it to run? There is a gob of wires behind the dash, I got the whole harness out of the truck today. Do I need the fuse box inside the truck? I'll be running push button start and I'll run all the lights and stuff like that on switches no need for that stuff in the harness, just the bare essentials. Anyone that has done this before please put in your 02 and some links if you have any. Thanx.
:driver:

Depends on the year of the truck 84-86 trucks have the EFI fuse and ignition fuse under the dash, 87 and newer trucks are under the hood if I remember right.

I'd definatly run fuse's no matter what set up you use.

Oh yea forgot its an 87, I know I need to run fuses but I just want a bare bones harness, just to run engine.

Electrical Wiring Diagram, a good one. A pin out of the computer would be a great thing to have, i still have one if you need it from my piggyback i think. From there you can hunt things down and know what goes where, its going to take time and a couple beers but its not too bad. I can help you with it if need be and i got a extra harness and thatll make it easier.

That sounds great, I think I found the EWD on pirate, it has a pic of the plugs and each spot is labeled. Not looking for the easy way out or anything, but how much would you charge to get the harness ready for me? Tho I would like to say I would like to say I know how it all works.

Come down here on a saturday to the shop and we'll get it figured out. You'll know how it works and we'll get it wired properly. Dont worry about money, just tryin to help.

the engine harness is basically self contained meaning plug in the computer. whats left is your ignition switch. look at a diagram. what is your igniton running.

you can do it many different ways depending on how you want it to work. but basically. and all these come form the ignition switch.

1. fuel pump- flip switch- fuse between battery and switch.
2. starter- push button
3. your computer needs a hot wire
4. coil needs a hot.
5. i believe your injectors need a ground or a hot can't remember.
5. the only tricky part is toyotas run a circuit opening relay and that relay sends power to a few things and a ground to the AFM. when it satrts and dies it b/c you are don't have it hooked up right.

there may be a few other things i can't rememeber and don't have a diagram in front of me. i just did an 91 a couple of months ago. You could send me the harness and i could wire it for you. Or you could bring to my shop and i could take care of it. but to make it run there are very few wires. all the other wires are alt. charge light, 4wd light egnine temp guage, oil pressure light/guage.

in order to save your switches you should add in some relays.
toyota basically runs the efi relay that powers up the circuit opening relay. circuit opening relay turns on fuel pump and powers up the rest as well as grounding the AFM.

All right, I got my harness stripped and put back on the motor, but I got a couple questions. The stoplight switch wire what do I wire it into? Somehow I stripped the starter relay out, were do I put it back in at? Do I need all the fuses in the panel that is behind the driver kick panel, and I have 2 wires that come from the comp. and splice into the EFI relay, but 4 wires come from the relay witch ones do I use and what do I do with the others? Please help me this stuff is driving me crazy!!!:bounce2:

re read my post above, is this a buggy or a truck with accesories if its a buggy and you want it to run. plug in computer. power up about 4 things and your done. you don't need the internal fuse panel or the engine fuse panel, you need 2 relays for switch longevity sake, and a couple of fuses for wire longevity sake, and 2-3 switches (1 being a push button for starter, starter relay is a standard relay power ground switch to power click power to starter, buy a good push button do away with relay save weight and money carry spare switch or if it burns out jump them togethher to get it to start.)depending on how what when you what stuff to turn on.ie ignition switch 1 click back accssories, 1 click forward accesories, fuel pump, efi power up, internal push butoon essentially engage starter. yes were is the stop light switch wire going do you have brake lights if you do i would run it to those. the efi relay is a standard relay, power, ground- power to power when switched. switch power is coming through the circuit opening relay which is not a standard relay b/c it is sending a ground to the AFM while it s sending power to EFI relay.
