need some help

i just got a 01 cherokee i was wondering what the oil pressure should be at idle when warm mine is at 10 but the motor doesn't sound bad it has 85,000 do i need a new oil pump if the bearings were bad i would hear it no? it goes up when i drive to 35 w/10/30 but was at 25-30 w/ 5/30 i put it on a mechanical guage and the sam e any help is appreciated

I would'nt worry about it I have had 3 xj's with the hp 4.0 they all did the same thing your describing with 85,000 on the od I would be running 15/40 rotella

Cold - around 40 psi
Warm - down to 10 ish at idle, back up to 40ish while on the gas. FSM says down to 13psi is ok (3psi - innaccuracy in the guage). My 98 wrangler with 48k does the same thing.

Lower oil pressure doesn't always mean your stuff is wearing out, could be a clean engine with good oil flow.

thanks mine doesnt jump up that high but wheni was on the mechanical guage it jumped alot more and faster than the jeep guage thanks

Your's is fine. That's about normal. My '98 XJ with 145K does that same thing. Nothing to worry about.

It is fine my wrangler with the 4.0 has been doing it for years. It has 94,000 miles in it now. I would not worry to much about it.
