Havent been here in a minute and this probably isnt the place for it but...

I have a 2001 tj 4cyl 5 speed. I need to have the transfercase rebuilt, i have one 231 that came stock with the jeep. And another 231 with some sort of SYE installed. My question being, can i rebuild the stock case, and remove the SYE from donor and install onto the original. Does this make an sense I need to reuse the original because yokes and what be it all work with the parts already on the jeep.

Also, if anyone can recommend a good place near shelby, morganton, hickory, asheville.

TIA

I recommend just doing it yourself. YouTube it alot. It might seem like a giant task but 231s are extremly simple. I was concerned about rebuilding one my self until I researched it and did it. Biggest thing is a good pair of snap ring pliers and take your time and keep everything organized.

Thats my issue. I wouldnt mind doing it myself. But work schedule dont guve me time to do it. 6 and 7 days aweek driving 65 miles one way 10 hrs a day. Just cant make time for it.

I have a practically new np242 that's got less than 2k miles on it for $100 if interested. Also could help you out with the rebuild. I'm in Hickory NC 828-284-1302 Thanks John

If you were closer I’d be glad to help you out. It’s really not complicated at all.

Even if you spaced it out over a week or more, you could do it. Spend 1 hour at night taking it apart, and say maybe 2 going back together just since it would be your first time.

You just need some good snap ring pliers. The special kind that open open up.
