So what do yall suggest?

I have a 4.0 wrangler on 35's w/ a 9" and D30, 3.73 gears, cold air intake and throttle body spacer & 5 speed and its still slow as the hills. What else could I do to get more performance besides replacing the engine and drivetrain? Would regear make much of a difference and if so, what gears? I top out around 60 (70 downhill) and uphill in 5th is not an option. Throw some ideas at me. thanks yall.

456

when you say "top out and 5th uphill not an option" is that b/c the RPMs are too low?
Soudns to me liek a major regear is best investment

Definitely regear, 4.56 should be good with those 35s and the 4.0, maybe even 4.88 if you ever plan on going up to 37s possibly, wouldn't even hurt if you stayed with 35s.

I know my 3.73s were a dog on my TJ with just 32/11.5s and would almost always have to downshift to 4th when going uphill driving on the interstate, 3.73s and your 35s would seem almost unbearable.

That was with a stock 4.0 with just K&N and exhaust. You seriously wasted your money on that throttle body spacer by the way.

I've got 35's and 4.56's in my zj, it's a great combo with the strait 6, puts you right near the bottom of its power band at highway speeds, and will hold 80-90 with out over revving the engine

I'm running 4.88's on 37's with an auto in my TJ, still won't get out of it's own way. I have 4.56's in my ZJ on 33's and it does about like it was when stock.

I keep the RPMs under 3 grand. So I would say no. 5th gear seems almost useless at this point.

Correction, the PO wasted his money on the spacer

supercharge it!

Give me $2k and Im game!
I looked into superchargers, looks like too much money for me. For that much coin I would rather put a V8 in and call it a week.

Thanks for the input everyone.... Now... Who/where/howmuch - Anyone know of a fairly cheap gear installer in the Charlotte area? Might as well put lockers in too since I have the ARB compressor and switches set to go. Anyone wanna let me borrow a couple grand?

I ran 4.56's with 36's for a loooooong time with my stroker, and It would do any speed in any gear I wanted, and the hills didn't matter. To me it was the right setup. On a stock 4.0 though, i'd maybe go with 4.88's.

Gear it, then stroke it.
