sry if not right section...

I need to get the pinion nut off a rear 60 to change the yoke, my IR 231 won't cut it :(

anyone in the raleigh area got a 3/4 or 1" impact (or maybe a stout ass 1/2") with a 1 and 5/16" socket i could borrow for a bit to do this?

much thanks.

I've got a 1", but ya gotta have an air compressor and hose that'll push it...

It uses 3/4" hose with Chicago fittings.

um, try banging on the bolt a couple times and that should help loosen the rust if thats whats holding it. hit it really hard!!!

also, i know you already know but spray ALOT of penetrating fluid.
is it on a the vehicle or not? if so, take and put a big wrench on it so it hits the frame or ground and drive foward. theres alot of ways to get it off it you can't with a whimpy impact

tyler

def not rust, it had grease and grime on it. soaked it down with PB more than a few times.

vehicle doesnt drive but we wedged my longass mac breaker bar with a cheater pipe and rolled the vehicle forward, nothin.

Do the brakes work? Lock the rear brakes, then lean on it. Don't be afraid to slide a 6' pipe over the end of the wrench, either.

brakes do not currently work, once we get em hooked up and bled, we are gonna try that with a floor jack on the breaker bar.

Just curious, How much PSI does it take to run a 1" impact wrench. I have a regular home owner style AC - 30 Gal, 150 max PSI, 6.5 CFM. Just curious. Thanks in advance

It's not the pressure, so much as the flow.. 10-13 cfm is what I remember seeing typically.

Just going off the specs listed for the guns.. (Mostly IR's)

Already been said - it's not the heat it's the humidity...

I mean not the pressure it is the volume. Most compressors actually have enough volume for a short burst.

BUT....

Most shops don't have the supply lines to put the air to a big gun.
The normal 5/16 or 3/8 line and the little nipples found in most home shops and even automotive shops just won't do it.

You need AT LEAST 1/2" hose and special larger couplers.

It's like having a big block and trying to run it through a 2 bbl carb and 2" single exhuast. Gonna be suffocating and not put out what it is supposed to.
But a small block might do fine with that same intake/exhuast combo.

W/O the air supply, a good (Bad Azz) 1/2" gun will put out almost as much torque.

Used to run my 1" gun on job sites off the diesel powered commercial compressors and a 1 or 2" hose. Talk about something with some nutz, but it would rip your arm off if you got caught nappin'.

"It's not the volts...It's the amps"
"How many amps are there?"
"Enough to push a train, now shut up!"

Anyone remember what movie that was in?

like I said before, you'll need at least a 3/4" hose...

I'll try and get a pic of the compressor we're renting for a job in Shelby. We're using an air tugger (pneumatic winch) to pull an elevator belt (vertical conveyor) at a grain mill. The tugger will lift 10K lbs and takes over 350cfm!!!! The darn air hose is 2 1/2" thick!!!! Freakin huge.
